Fediverse, I need your help diagnosing a weird finger thing I've got going on!I have a SUPER sensitive spot on each of my fingers, about half way between the end of my fingernail, and my first knuckle. The slightest bump there on anything hard is debilitatingly painful. The pain is way out of proportion to how hard I bump it though, almost as if there is a secret nerve pain point sitting at those spots on my fingers. But no one else I've spoken to seems to experience the issue. And turning to web searches simply turns up discussion about infected fingernails. It's not new, my fingers have always been like this, so I'm not worried about it, just curious as to what it could be, given that apparently no one else experiences it.So help me fediverse? What weirdness is going on with my fingers?#askfedi

@number6 @flodI had disabled Firefox in snap, but I have now removed it completely, and restarted again. No difference, unfortunately.My whole reason for this exercise is to see if it's possible to access banks and authorities here without depending on Google, Apple, or Microsoft. I feel that I am close, but right now I'm struggling with debugging the extension. I'll continue tomorrow or during the weekend.

@markwyner Ubuntu/Kubuntu... are based on Debian and have a built-in package manager to install updates. It is a Repository manager like command line apt-get where you install updates and programs. So, package manager and repository manager are interchangeable. You add Flatpack to your repository manager as a new repository. If you are new to Linux you should look for a mature Distro with a LTS.

How feasible would it be to port Wine to MS-DOS?DOS already has a well-known port of the GNU tools (DJGPP), and I'd appreciate the ability to run Windows 95 (and later) software on such an austere operating system.Bonus points if it's possible to get better VESA performance than the official Basic Display Adapter drivers.I'm not familiar with C (or derivatives), but there are probably worse places for me to start.#askfedi#retrocomputing#wine

They are considering voluntary self admission to a psychiatric facility. An eSIM was recommended to a friend who's travelling to Japan. Her phone isn’t eSIM-compatible, though. Does anyone with local knowledge know if she’d even need a SIM there just for a short trip? I imagine Japanese WiFi to be tip-top in trains, hotels, cafés. But then again, I imagined German WiFi would be tip-top better than Danish WiFi until that time our DSB train crossed the border and Deutsche Bahn immediately turned off the WiFi. I have a question fedi. So, I know for the PAM directory, filenames are the same name as that of the service/command for which it controls access. But what if you want PAM to only control access to the execution of a subcommand--how is that written into the filename? Is it possible? How are spaces in these filenames treated by PAM? #askfedi

@BalooUriza I think I will be following the recommendation of @vespucci_editor and @mannivu to map the complexes as blocks. I will keep in mind to add the residential landuse too, albeit without names.

@vextaur @16af93 GoToSocial is probably the best lightweight activitypub server type, it has filters and likes, AFAIK it doesn't have quoting (yet) or emoji reactions though.

@jledv That terms appears to be quite prevalent in the US, and comes from a brand name according to some other replies here.
