Recently got a USB-C inline meter that shows voltage, current, and power. Checking a couple old Anker power banks, with USB-A (one also has C) they provide 5-6 watts. For last year’s GAP/C&O trip I picked up a 45watt power bank that supports PD (https://www.walmart.com/ip/JUOVI-Portable-Power-Bank-20000-mAh-Battery-Pack-45-W-Fast-Charge-Compatible-Switch-MacBook-Tablet-Dell-HP-Notebook-Samsung-iPhone-Steam-Deck/10773165668). My USB-C iPhone draws 15 volts and almost 1.5 amps (more if phone has low charge and camera active), for 22+ watts. Surprisingly my 2021 Macbook doesn't charge the phone as fast as this power bank (~14watts). Also with a USB-C to lightning this power bank charges an old iPhone 11 at 10w, normally it does 6-7w with USB-A.Moral of the story: USB-C and PD capable power bank if you can swing it! Also, for traveling, a 45w or 65w AC charger will top up the power bank quickly as well as charge another device.Paper on USB power delivery:https://www.ti.com/lit/wp/slyy109b/slyy109b.pdf#USBC #BikePacking

Another Alaska to Argentina YT series, “Dan Cycles the World” from the UK. When given the choice he’ll almost always go for harder, more remote routes, occasionally ditching the bike to hike interesting mountains. Having watched 21 episodes so far I’d say his catchphrase is that every view is absolutely the most beautiful he's seen and completely worth the trouble/time/pain. This was put into stark perspective when his non-bikepacking friend joined for a while. Dan started in June of 2023 and is still out there, somewhere in South America. https://youtu.be/6dXVHO0ZmD0#BikePacking #BikeTooter

Alex biked from the top of Alaska to the bottom of Argentina. I was watching someone's great divide ride when Alex showed up for a few days, which led to his channel. I'm about to the halfway into the trip videos (it took over a year to reach Panama). Lots of stuff on the bike wore out or broke along the way, luckily he’s got a steel bike and has found people to weld it. There's a separate video about the bike he put together and all of the reasoning behind his choices.https://youtu.be/o8kMoVbp8Fw#BikeTooter #BikePacking

I ran across the link for making a frame bag. Lots of good tips, including those in the 2017 update. They also have links to a number of tutorial videos.@ai6yr https://bikepacking.com/gear/how-to-make-a-bikepacking-framebag-krampus/#BikeTooter #BikePacking

At various stages of design I’d declare it as “good enough”. But trying to remove or install bag the mounts would fall off or get out of alignment and it would be back to the drawing board. I made a bottom brace that screws the two parts together and rests on headset. Swift includes an elastic strap to help secure bottom of bag to bike, mostly keeping it from bouncing around. That strap was final element to snug everything together. To remove the bag unhook strap and simply lift bag off the hooks.I also trimmed some of the material around the Swift's mounting bar openings to allow more flexible mounting options.3/3 🧵 #BikeTooter #3DPrinted #BikePacking
