Hokay, I've launched a webapp at https://discoverfedi.app
What's it do?
- Let's you browse the federated timeline of a selected instance (use the change instance button to switch to something else, with mastodon.social being the default)
- Can switch to image-only view for a more "instagram" kind of feels
- Search the entire federated network (uses the fedi observer api, is a bit wonky and am still working out the kinks)
- Search hashtags on the instance you're currently viewing
- Save the instance you're viewing to "favorites" (stored as a cookie)
- Show/hide NSFW content
- Uses GardenFence to block harmful instances from being accessed in the search and display (although blocked content may show up in an instance's federated timeline, this is one of those dents in the development that need un-dented)
- Light and dark theme changed manually, or adjusted to system settings
- Requires no logon credentials, no registration, since many many many instances are publicly visible
- Works nice on a phone
Issues:
- Some instances may return an error
- Some instances may not display properly, especially across different software
- Search is a bit funky
Why?
People outside of the fediverse always complaining about how difficult it is to see what the heck the fediverse is, or choose servers. Well, the problem? There's well over 20,000+ servers, and this may or may not fix the issue of "finding things" lol
This could be an iOS/Android app, but I don't feel like paying Apple or Google money for dev accounts

@ggrey Ci sono diverse istanze incompatibili tra di loro. Ad es. Ghost vede il mio profilo su NodeBB, ma non carica l'immagine del profilo di NodeBB. Ma NodeBB vede il mio profilo su Ghost e carica l'immagine del profilo. Da NodeBB però non vedo i profili di Pleroma. Allo stesso modo NodeBB non vede il tuo profilo, se lo cerco non lo trova. Non so perché.

Ho fatto un post dalla piattaforma federata di blog Ghost. Siccome mi seguo dalle mie istanze, il mio post compare nelle timeline delle mie istanze Mastodon, NodeBB, Friendica, ... dalle quali poi mi commento. Mi aspetto che i miei commenti da quelle istanze appaiono in calce al mio post su Ghost. Non è così, non compaiono. Ghost sì mi notifica i miei commenti, ma li tratta come se fossero messaggi privati, non li pubblica. Perché? Secondo me, non è così che dovrebbe funzionare la federazione.
