Depero. "Depero Futurista 1913–1927" (the so-called "bolted book"), 1927.Madonna. "SEX" book, 1992.Separated by 65 years, these are very similar works. Both are fusion albums in exaggerated book format: part manifesto, part portfolio, part commercial advertizing one artist, who is both creator and subject. Both riff on the book format itself as part of the art. Depero did it first; Madonna took it global. But there are Depero homages all over her work, even the metal cover.#Painting
