More monkeying around with OpenBSD. I spent a bunch of time getting LXQt working but the themeing was taking too much time so I threw more ram at the VM and installed KDE. The goal was to learn about OpenBSD, not LXQT. Ha.Lots of the standard apps are there in OpenBSD but I need to find out how to get Librewolf and Waterfox going. Having done zero research, I'm assuming I need to compile from source.I saw an article out using "Molly" as an alternate Signal Messenger client (xn--gckvb8fzb.com/if-you-must-use-signal-use-molly/). May try it in the future. The KDE Plasma version is 6.4.5. IIRC KDE is stopping X11 support so I will need to figure out something else I guess. I've seen threads about Wayland on OpenBSD but didn't go down the rabbit hole yet. What little I read implied not ready for prime time. The VM feels pretty snappy even though the QEMU agent doesn't really help with video options. This is using the VGA driver setup to get a decent resolution.I really need to get this Jeep back on the road. I miss it.#OpenBSD #KDE #KDEPlasma #LXQt #VM #QEMU #Librewolf #Waterfox #X11 #Wayland #Signal

@grahamperrin I've never had much luck with the re-provided disk images. I couldn't get older ones to work in Hyper-V and the newer ones did but with silly default options.I ended up just building my own with Poudriere (which is very easy). Deploying your second FreeBSD instance is much easier than the first!

The mighty world of BSDPlaying with again smolBSD, a fantastic metaOS system that I talked about a few weeks ago.I'm a newbie, a greenhorn, when it comes to meta-operating systems built on top of NetBSD.I am very eager to learn by doing, making mistakes in the process, correcting and feel the warmth of the BSD community, who is happy to correct, esp when I show that I read the docs after making the mistakesThe journey is fantastic, the learning process is fun. microVM's are amazing. I've registered 11ms boot times on this small machine with a few CPU cores (and 40GB RAM). The fun is endless#programming #technology #BSD #netBSD #metaOS #microVM #networking #qemu #host #bmake #curl #sshd #Linux https://smolbsd.org/
