@rigger yes, I have to remember to do that tomorrow… but one day more or less won't do make of a difference :)I'm using CeraSeal, which is an emulsion of wax (I think paraffin?) in water. I have also used simple furniture wax in the past, made from beeswax and linseed oil, which seemed to work equally well. I've actually never tried paint because I didn't have to paint any walls since starting that board sawing hobby, and it's more expensive than the wax options :D

@dmeat Just double checking, did you make sure the wood was not chemically treated?It is nicely bad ass. Bet it's rather heavy, so perfect for that area.

@anarchaeopteryx thanks! It's pressure treated, so it should probably dry out a bit more, but I'll probably seal it in late summer, around the time I put sealer on the kid's playset (which has held up well)

Where, in the UK, can I source some softwood that's not banana-shaped? I'm building a workbench for the shed, so I want lengths of approx 50mm x 50mm nominal cross section.Doesn't have to be top quality (because shed), but it would be nice if it was actually square and straight.Note that "pick it out yourself" doesn't really work, 'cos I'll be ordering it for delivery. #woodworking

@madgurl69 @Ashmire Rex Kruger does sell plans cheaply, or free to patrons. His plans are for handtool woodworking though.Whosethevoss gives his power tool plans away for free. Don't really know others, I usually design my own projects

I just happened to notice that toolsfromjapan.com seems to have lapsed. It was dormant for some years, but is now entirely gone. I have fond memories of the proprietor, Stu, helping me with my first purchases of Japanese tools (which I still use happily today). I know he and his family moved back to Australia sometime around COVID (which is why he paused the store). I hope they are doing well, and I wish them all the best.#woodworking
