Hello all We're planning to start a Peertube channel, to replace our Vimeo account, moving our videos across to the Fediverse. There are many photo music slideshows from performances (with music supplied by the musicians) and also hopefully a few cycling videos. It will feature videos by both @StevenKennard and myself (the music photography being his work).I'm a bit confused about how to go about naming an account and then channels. I want to be sure before starting as they can't be changed once you set them up. I have an instance chosen, so that's something! Can someone enlighten me please? @FediVideo @FediTips #fediHelp #PeerTube #EllieKPosts

@TazPoltorak @Bfordham some toy machines cheat by only being able to make a chain stitch instead of the lockstitch used by modern¹ machines: those aren't really sewing machines, they can't be used to follow instructions designed for sewing machines and I'd recommend staying away from them even as a “starting” machine, because they really aren't one.the main issue being that the chain stitch unravels, and using it to make functional garments will require a lot more handsewing and different techniques that those used today.as the first sewing machine ever built, they were time saver when sewing meters and meters of ruffles on a 1850s dress, when you were used to sew 1840s dresses by hand, but really, sewing machine technology has moved on :)¹ i.e. since the second half of the 19th century :D

@GustavinoBevilacqua he may also have some unexpected luck with the multi-bit small screwdrivers sets... I just checked mine and it does have a 1.3 and 0.9 hex bit (probably actually 2 and 3 64th of an inch?)Also, maybe it's obvious but: did he check his guitar bag? I'm almost certain that my guitar came with the relevant hex keys (now, where did they end up it's an entirely different matter)

I'm really hoping for Fediverse help here.I have a 14 year old niece. She's incredibly smart and extremely motivated when it comes to engineering things.I want to get her some electronics stuff, like an Arduino kit, but maybe something with wearables, etc. to make it more relevant to her than just a breadboard. She'll also need some books on electronics, since she doesn't have the background in that.Sadly, some limitations:- I can't help her. Her mother won't let my wife or I talk to her. This gift itself will have to be given through a third party.- She has a learning disability around reading- likely dyslexia, and so we need material that's easy to read- Her English is not amazing, especially because of the learning disability. So I'm looking for a kit with a ton of instructional material. Programming, electronics, breadboard, the whole kit and kaboodle. If you have ideas, please share, and boost!#Maker #Arduino #Wearables #FediHelp #Electronics
