Probably now you have a very boring feed. This is how you moderate it. Go onto the live feed button and scroll. If there is someone interesting, follow them. You can unfollow them later if you like.
Then follow some hashtags. Use the number symbol and a word in the search bar and see if anyone is there, then follow the hashtag. Those posts will end up on your feed.

I wrote this post as a thread, where I wrote the second post as a comment on the first post, and on my system, when I click it, I see the entire thread of posts before and after. What I can NOT see are any posts that are blocked, either by my instance or by me personally.

Yes, you can block individual users so you can't see their posts. You can block hashtags.
You can also mute posters and hashtags. That means that they are off for a while.
Just click on the user's profile and click mute.

The software platform that I am posting from now is called Mastodon. My instance limits me to posts of 500 characters, but not all instances do. That is why I like to thread my posts.
We have some special hashtags here that you might want to try to get the feel of the place. Our official mascot is #JohnMastodon Some of my favorite hashtags to follow include:

If you want to get more advanced with the fediverse experience, I suggest you follow some reblogging bots.
These are auto-users whose entire job is to find hashtags and reblog them on their feed. Since different instances are networked with other sites differently, this is a way to see something of a particular type that is blocked, or to get content on your feed to fill it up. Such as @CatEveryHour
See the @ symbol? That is how you add a person to your post or put it in search to find them.

It may take time to find things. I suggest you randomly type things into the search bar and see what suggestions come up.
I did that now and found @Random_Snake_Facts

If other people have hashtags in their post click on them to see what they are talking about. I post often about #kpop . May not be your thing but #kpop_demon_hunters was great wasn't it?
