On Android:Step 1 (optional, as I believe this is possible on Stock from Android 11 onwards): install GrapheneOS
Step 2 create different profiles
Step 3 use "install available apps" in the profile settings to use apps installed in the Owner profile
Step 4 disable the app in the Owner profile

Meno male che ieri ho registrato la newsletter. Pronta da una settimana rischiavo che il mal di gola rovinasse tutto per una volta che ero in largo anticipo. Ora posso soffrire in silenzio con la gola che sembra una grattugia.

As I understand it, this still takes a fair bit of tech savvy and persistence.
But perhaps the dream of federation is the logical extension of what Elena is doing, once the tech is there to enable it for regular non-techies. Imagine that self-hosting was plug-and-play, for the most part -- like blogging is now. Everyone a free agent on a free web, no more centralized data hoarding and enshittification.
