also - TIL folks are not shy of pushing 20 megs (and bigger!) movies into their toots. @stefano how big is bsd.cafe's storage? @mms the media storage is around 130 GB, at the moment. I'm not at the computer now, otherwise I could tell you more about the size of the other parts

@mms the media storage is around 130 GB, at the moment. I'm not at the computer now, otherwise I could tell you more about the size of the other parts @stefano this seems... small? I was expecting north of TB. But this is good news. Btw, have you documented publicly the design of bsd.cafe servers? Most people would simply attach aws s3.

Maybe I could post about how to use Mastodon with your own S3 storage (using SeaweedFS at the moment)

@stefano TIL this thing exists. Looks cool! @mms it's great. It manages millions of small files without a sweat!

@mms it's great. It manages millions of small files without a sweat! @stefano and it seems to handle backup?

@stefano and it seems to handle backup? @mms it does. I'm keeping in sync those media with a local Raspberry Pi 4, connected via VPN. Almost in real time.
I also have the ZFS backups of the entire dataset.

@stefano that's.... unbelievable tbh ;-) What a time to be alive. @mms we have great technology, well hidden under all the commercial noise.
Having those media synced here also means I'm not downloading them from the original server, when using Mastodon. Which would be fine, but hey....this way is more fascinating ๐
