Interviewer: So I assume you're adept at all Office products, right?

    Me: All except PowerPoint.

Interviewer: What do you mean? Everybody knows how to use PowerPoint.

Me: I'm sure I could figure it out. F1 brings up the help menu. It's how I learned the other modules in the Office suite. I just hate PowerPoint. It's garbage. Nobody should use it. Ever. Have IT delete it off all your computers.

Interviewer: What? How would you give a presentation then?

Me: I don't know. It's been a long time since I took Public Speaking. Tell you what--give me a topic and a week to prepare and I'll come up with a creative presentation that will actually keep people engaged.

    Interviewer: You took Public Speaking?

Me: Yes. Of course. Isn't that kind of a basic requirement if you want to call yourself educated? And, I mean, it's not easy to learn on your own. If you're gonna get up and sing the ABC song at the salad bar at Shoney's, you better do it at the end of your meal 'cuz they're gonna throw you out. I did that once, y'know.

    Interviewer: You did? Why?

Me: Lost a bet. My boss was a prick.

Interviewer: Well, you're either getting the job or referred to the FBI for heavy surveillance. Probably both. Welcome aboard!

  • OK, Wayne had a real bear scare. I reckon he's justified in bailing out.

    Sam's looking awful cozy, though.

  • Ah, hell, his name is Joe. But, dude, you had a fire going when you lost the fire starter. Just keep it going forever. Where else you gotta be that you can't put a log on the fire every couple hours? Night time is a challenge, but if you keep it reasonably dry, you can stoke it back to life again in the morning.

  • Doomed by misplacing the fire starter is relatable. I would definitely lose something vitally important to my survival immediately.

  • Maybe they've saved the competent folks for later. Two guys have boiled water in episode 2, including the "better float across this water on a rickety tarp raft".

This guy eating a banana slug, a notorious carrier of rat lung worm, seems like an avoidable risk? At least he thoroughly cooked it.

  • I mean, I guess it's saltwater. But, I think they're in a rainforest? They said this place gets 12+ feet of rain every year.

But, they're seemingly all drinking collected water without boiling or treating it. These folks are not gonna last long.

  • How am I going to get across all this water to find water?

I know this sounds like a joke, but that is literally what is happening here.

  • OK, Alone is fantastic. The cop talking tough while leaving after the first day because of bears is hilarious. Oh, there are bears in the woods? Better go home, tough guy.

Next one to leave is because he's afraid of dogs.

And, look, bears are scary as shit. But, these guys act like serious outdoorsmen, and they've never run into wildlife? Without a firearm they're terrified? I'm a casual but regular hiker, and I've been sniffing distance from bears, a bobcat, a lynx, and wolves.

The witch made him hot chocolate. "They say I'm strong," he said. "And I am."He took a sip."They say I can overcome any hardship.""Mm," said the witch. "And I can. I do."The witch said nothing. "But I shouldn't have to!""No."The witch held the hero as he wept."No, you shouldn't."#MicroFiction #TootFic #SmallStories

"Best take the staples out, Tom," Alice said as she left the room."Best take the staples out, Tom," he mimicked her voice once she was gone, scrunching up his face. "As if I've never used a shredder before."He fed the documents into the machine, one by one, taking comfort in their destruction. The next one he picked up had a staple. He grinned as he put it in the shredder. What's the worst that could happen? The shredder pulled in the paper and shredded it until the staple hit the rotating blades. A spark and a bang made Tom jump. The lights in the room dimmed momentarily. Then, a loud mechanical whirring came from the machine, rising in pitch as the motor spun faster and faster.Tom stepped back cautiously as the stack of papers on the table were sucked through the air into the shredder. When a book flew off the shelf towards the machine, he ran out of the room. In a panic, he pressed the nearest fire alarm and ran out of the building.Chairs and tables were shreded, followed by drywall and supporting pillars. People hurried out of their offices. Part of the building caved in, smashing the shredder and severing its power line. Without electricity, it finally stopped.Stunned office workers looked around to see if anyone was injured or missing. Tom found his colleagues, thankfully all there."I told you," Alice said."I told you," Tom repeated, making a silly face.#Inktober #Inktober2025 #microfiction #shredded

The time traveller closed the book and stared blankly ahead. "So," said the author, "was that what-""No! "This is demeaning," one robot said. "With this, you mean queueing to have our eyes inspected?" the robot behind it in line said. "We all have multi-colour LEDs fitted.""Yes, software-controlled ones. They don't automatically glow red if we turn evil.""Looks good on you though.""Thanks."#MicroFiction #TootFic #SmallStories
