LibreNMS and MikroTik are a great combination.
A client reached out because they had no clear idea how their queues were configured or whether they were actually needed. After all, "everything seems to be running fine.". The usual mantra: "if eveything's working, what am I paying you for?"
I pulled up LibreNMS, grabbed a couple of screenshots, and suddenly everything made sense.
The response? "WOW." -

@napierge I run it into a FreeBSD jail. It connects to my MikroTik devices (but not only - also Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD servers) via snmp. It will detect the os and features and will start tracking and graphing them in the proper way

How much effort a given piece of software requires to stay functional in a changing world is very varied.
I have a tiny C mail delivery agent I wrote for myself in 1997 and last touched in 1998. It's still working perfectly fine locally. (I had to recompile it once.)
Compare with a project like Home Assistant, where I really couldn't guess how much effort that must be.
I'd expect a few hours per month for an average project.
