Dear Fedi friends,
I'm currently busy organizing the birthday party of my little one.
How lucky I am that I can still protect her from the Brave New World of the broligarchs. It's relatively easy now (she's turning 5)... but it'll get more difficult as time goes by.
If you wonder where my passion for FOSS and the Fediverse comes from: this is it. I want to help make a better world for her and her peers.
As I like to say: it's not going to be easy, but it's definitely going to be worth it ✊

@_elena as someone with an adult daughter: at some point you get to transition from protecting them from the outside world, to just ensuring they know that certain bits of it are not normal or okay.
this is easier, but i think, more important.

Sometimes it seems that certain parents don't care about their children's future.
I understand that it's not easy, but at least let's try to make some changes, even small ones.
I don't have children, but I really appreciate your parenting attitude. -
@frhuy the broligarchs may have greed as their motivating drive but it's NOTHING compared to the passion of parents, grandparents, siblings, aunties, uncles and caretakers 💁♀️ when I think of this, I have hope for this fight
@_elena At the KB national library, we are spreading the word at conferences, showing your great introductory video 🙏

@_elena That's so great. I really appreciate your work. My boy is 4 now and I've been wondering how to get him used to tech independence, or interest in tinkering. I mean, his interest will come when he's... interested. I wonder how to play and adapt to guide him away from the corporate hellscape into independent thinking. We're already on fixing, or repurposing toys. Even though it's early, time moves quickly with these little ones, so good to start thinking about it now.
What do you think? -

What do you think?@WanderFool for sure. With me it started with the introduction of screentime when she was 3 1/2. Always supervised, on demand tv only, not the hellscape of YouTube & its algorithms.
I always explain the WHY (regarding the reasons I don't like certain tech/toys). Yesterday in line at the supermarket I gave her a little lecture about aisle design and the placement of candy by the cash registers to tempt people with impulsive last min purchases.
I look forward to building things w LEGO & my Raspi
