I'm giving the keynote at the [FOSS for All Conference 2025], but the organizers told me I have to provide my slides in English too, which means I'm now stuck having to explain what the heck [Korean mixed script] (國漢文混用體) is in English.

@hongminhee looking forward to it! And btw I love reading your posts in mixed script since my Hanja recognition is still only maybe 100 characters (I probably know around double that number of Kanji, but it doesn’t always carry over 😅)

@ianthetechie@fosstodon.org Haha, I'm glad you find my posts in Korean mixed script interesting. Hanja isn't essential for learning modern Korean, but it's still a lot of fun, eh!

@hongminhee yeah, I think even my father in law's use of Hanja is a distant memory, but I think it's a beautiful cultural artifact, and has some artistic elegance in the conciseness.
It's also literally fun(ny) for me because it opens up more kinds of word play. For example my wife informs me that I am the only person in the world who would think of calling this 광주(光酒), but she thought it was funny anyways :P
