  • In my humble opinion, hosting instant messaging is something completely different than ActivityPub - due to the instant aspect of it.

With this, availability is a far more important aspect of it all. Hence the high available setup. Ofcourse, backups are just as important, but it shouldn't cause a full service outage in the unlikely event that one datacenter has a blackout.

You have given me your trust - and I want to do just by all of you. No matter whether you are messaging a family member about dinner or blowing the whistle about injustice.

At the moment in the upcoming two weeks when Exquisite.chat will be taking signups, I will be vocal about it. Thank you all - Exquisite has been such an awesome experience from the very start. And continues to be just that.

  • @bbfnart I have sporadically seen this kind of stuff, usually starting by this or that artist out of personal initiative, and I agree that it's an incredible way of discovering new artists (heck, I remember this even from the old webcomic days when everyone had their own website and this was one of the primary ways in which artists helped each other gain visibility). I guess that here the only way to get something like this started is to do the legwork? Hopefully your call gets heard!

  • Announcing Exquisite.chat

Within the upcoming two weeks, Exquisite.chat will officially be launched. The first iteration will be an XMPP server - in a later phase more services will be added.

It does have a few twists:

Uses a hardened setup, powered by both OpenBSD and HardenedBSD. We have our own STUN/TURN setup so you can talk / video with your beloved ones.No logs, full encryption to benefit your (and our) privacy. It is setup in 'high availability' mode. Served from two different datacenters in the Netherlands (our main datacenter, DC1 in Amsterdam, but now adding Rotterdam to the mix) for increased resiliency. So, no clouds (oh hai us-east-1).And some more details that will follow shortly

🧠 Modular Garbage CollectorsFor the first time, CRuby can dynamically load alternative GC implementations (including MMTk-based ones) at runtime — opening the door to new performance strategies and future runtime flexibility.Deep dive here 👇🔗 https://rubystacknews.com/2026/02/23/%f0%9f%a7%a0-pluggable-garbage-collectors-in-ruby-exploring-the-new-modular-gc-api/#ruby #rubylang #opensource #programming #performance #devOps

Perhaps this is why?> AI Agents Are Mathematically Incapable of Doing Functional Work, Paper Finds. https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/ai-agents-incapable-math> "Ignore the rhetoric that tech CEOs spew onstage and pay attention to what the researchers that work for them are finding, and you’ll find that even the AI industry agrees that the tech has some fundamental limitations baked into its architecture."NOTE: This continues the bad practice of referring to 'generative AI' as 'AI'. Not all AI is LLMs…#AI #science

When did you last finish a tech book? 📚50% of devs don't read anymore. But leaders building our AI future spend hours with humanity's oldest information technology.Coincidence? I don't think so.AI can write code and answer in seconds, but reading builds something irreplaceable: your brain 🧠Check out my new article: "Code, prompts, and... books? Why reading is an analog superpower in the age of AI"https://mattilehtinen.com/articles/code-prompts-and-books-why-reading-is-your-analog-superpower-in-the-age-of-ai/#SoftwareDevelopment #AI #Reading #Programming
