Totally understand if you'd rather pay someone already experienced with c64 music, I'm sure it'll be simpler, but if you're interested at all, here's an album of my tracker music (some of it is Gameboy):

Give a listen to the soundtracks for The Legend of Zelda, Neutopia, Crusader of Centy, for inspiration. It's a fantasy 2d action RPG.

I've been interested in making music with the c64 for a while. Might even get to the point that I know how to run stuff on a c64, at least emulated.Do you know of any native c64 trackers that are any good? Part of the fun in lsdj (the gameboy tracker) is working on it natively or emulated.

@eniko You can use SIMD ops for that too but the biggest problem for SW rendering is sampling+edge cull. AVX2 has gather-load ops (to pull texture data from spread-out locations) and conditional store ops (to avoid storing outside of the tri edge), which make it much less problematic.
There are writeups out there for how to compute barycentric coordinates for each pixel, which will let you interpolate the coordinates+matrices of each vert. Beyond that it's the same as using shaders.

@eniko @TomF Only for directional lights, yeah. This is the same technique that the "doing 3D on the Gameboy Color" article that was doing the rounds a while back was using, except they were using hardware palettes as the indices and pre-baking the entire scene as one big normal texture.
