Dunno. Sounds pretty British to me."

π@_thegeoff Try it over here on our side in America.
We were literally the "melting pot" country. We literally called ourselves that for a time.
But somehow through a long campaign of hate and ignorance people were taught that the things that once made us strong somehow are really bad and should be stopped at all costs.

πIf you go to the UK and don't bring your own food, you will most likely regret it.

@mndflayr "The only nation to spend a hundred years setting up a spice empire, only to assidiously refuse to use it in their food"
Luckily, that started to change a few years after I was born, we discovered pizza ("Italian Welsh Rarebit"), and importantly a version of Indian food that has become as much a staple as fish and chips (Jewish tradition via Belgium). I built my own tandoor in the garden and my life is all the better for it.

@nazokiyoubinbou @_thegeoff "Melting Pot" always really meant "comply with our ways." America (and Canada too, just to make sure I'm being honest about my country as well) has always been a white supremacist nation, it only really flirted with pluralism for a hand full of decades.

@minentromaxinfo @_thegeoff Well, "melting pot" never meant that, but it also wasn't said or taught for long I guess.
And I'll concede that America has had this same issue multiple times before. We're very good at hate definitely. I'm just saying that it's a country that was formed by people coming over in the first place and has always consisted of that until pretty darned recently, so that's the lack of self-awareness that we are at at this point.

@mndflayr I based mine on this, cost me about Β£100 4 years ago, a day's work including a 2hr drive to buy parts. Been used at least a hundred times since. So, so good. https://thecurrykid.co.uk/how-to-build-a-tandoor-oven-at-home-for-under-50/

@nazokiyoubinbou @_thegeoff Oh absolutely, as a white man who is the son of an immigrant, it's never been lost on me the hypocrisy of the children of immigrants complaining about immigration.

π@_thegeoff Brits should be better informed about our barbaric empire before declaring any positivity about British culture.

@minentromaxinfo @_thegeoff I bet quite a lot of Native Americans would agree. π
The amazing thing is, they treat Native Americans (who were here first!) the same way they treat immigrants. Or worse...

@nazokiyoubinbou @_thegeoff Sadly very true. ICE has actually abducted several first nations people and held them as "illegal immigrants." These are insane times.

@minentromaxinfo @_thegeoff ICE has kidnapped even white citizens. I really wish people as a whole could be made to understand how horrible and dangerous they are and why even far right gun nuts should want them shut down yesterday.

@minentromaxinfo @_thegeoff The irony on that one is so thick you'll need a steak knife to cut through it and even then it's going to dull the blade before you're through.
I mean it was always a complete crock of it of course, but people were falling for that whole claim that they needed guns supposedly to fight off tyranny. And then here tyranny is and they want to fight *FOR* it instead.
My neighbors are among them. I hear them practicing, knowing they want to shoot people like me...
