They still announce this train as going to Siracusa, even if half the train goes to Palermo.

Is this enough food and drink until the train ferry around noon tomorrow, where I can grab some more? Yes.
And sure, it would have been nice to spend more time on buying better quality food, but hey, I am no bloke in seat 61.
The carriage even has an old school “Betten frei” sign.
”Deluxe” is a bit of an exaggeration considering these old sleeping-cars don’t have compartments with en-suite shower/WC. But compared to couchettes, sure.

Local beverage! We just made a short stop in #Pavia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oltrepò_Pavese
When I took the Torino–Lecce night train in January, I had a bottle of Barbera d’Asti, and that train stops in Asti. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbera_d'Asti
Let’s start a trend: Drink #wine from the region you are travelling through in a night train.

Good morning from Campania. We are currently 77 minutes late for unknown reasons but probably will be able to catch up a fair amount of that by shortening the tedious shunting and waiting in Villa San Giovanni and Messina. Or not.
The small pack of a toothpaste included in the #Trenitalia #InterCityNotte amenities kit is totally mental.

If we hadn’t been delayed, this is the kind of view I would have woken up to.

Nice breakfast, purchased in the supermarket in Milano Centrale.
I still have half of that half bottle of excellent Barbera left, but as I will arrive in Palermo presumably only well after the scheduled 16:55, I think I can manage to consume it in the afternoon.

Morning paper* delivered to your sleeping-car compartment. Delightfully old school.
*) Yes, I know its name literally means the evening courier.

This probably explains our delay.

Now the ferry has arrived in Messina, but... a guy is walking through the carriages looking for some emergency brake that has been pulled... let's see if we will stay on the train-deck for long until they find the leak in the brake pipe.
The fun thing was that first he looked at the emergency hammer above the window; then he came around a second time and checked the brake handle above the door.
Edit: They found the problem, now we are moving out from the ferry.
This time I didn't even leave the carriage while on the ferry;) One gets so blasé after a few times.

In the end I arrived in Palermo with just around 15 minutes delay.
As the train stops in the south for exit only, it didn't even bother to stop at stations nobody had a ticket to, like Cefalù.
