  • @badtuple I've debated making something that does that, but haven't ever pulled the trigger on it. I don't know of any other projects in this regard, but projects like NodeBB (and the threadiverse more generally) have done interesting work that could be adapted.

  • Hmm, has anyone made an compatible server for play-by-post RPGs? That way people can follow along if they want, people could run their own server if they wished, but mainly as an alternative to discord which is where so many modern pbp games are hosted.

  • @FinchHaven Thanks for chiming in. I appreciate it.

  • @FinchHaven I am second guessing my choice of WordPress. I have been reading where people say one post or share from someone with a lot of followers will bring down your site each time... I am hoping, although some of the reading was recent, that devs have fixed it since then.

I am confident that the issues I am having is more towards my current, default WordPress configuration and not network related or even WordPress ActivityPub's fault.

    Good luck with it

Those were just my first, easiest thoughts

Dropped out of network troubleshooting a good long while ago...

  • @FinchHaven Thanks. I changed the wording to the post. I just started troubleshooting the issue this morning and did a few things until I can break it down later overnight and troubleshoot more.

I added caching and going to add persistent object caching soon. I also notice php had low memory permissions so it was bottoming out quickly. I fixed that.

The WordPress instance sat idle until mid-February which explains why the jump is Latency.

I'm hosting on a VPS server through Namecheap at this time. Ubuntu 22.04, 12 GB ram, 8 CPU cores.

Also, to look at your instance on Fediverse Observer, your Latency more than doubled between January 2025 and February 2025, from 131.97 to 473-490 ms, and hit a peak of 757 ms on Jan 2026

    Most recently: 538 ms @ Mar 2026

"Recently, when I post the new post at 9PM est, it has taken 15 minutes or longer for all instances on the to get it ... why is because my enabled site is getting due to the sheer number of instances trying to communicate with us when the game goes out."

I often check for details when I see posts like this, in the off-hand chance I might learn something

You seem to be on a single-user host via Namecheap

Assuming you're posting using TCP/IP, each packet you send out to the Fediverse requires an ACK packet in return before it continues, and most transactions involve scores of packets

Have you used something like Wireshark to look at exactly what you're sending out and receiving?

I doubt you're being DDoSsed so much as your very small instance is suddenly talking to tens of thousands of other instances, each one of which is trying to talk back to you all at once

Shorter: the Internet is not instantaneous

@trwnhthe type information is largely unnecessary and shouldn't factor into handling CRUDServers needs to know the core type / class in order to determine the "owner" of an object (actor, attributedTo, etc).how does the server know which ids to assign and which ones not to?The result property could be declared as special in the FEP. Servers will be required to assign IDs to embedded activities. What is a blank node identifier, id: null? Using this to indicate a need for ID is a good idea too.I don't think side effect activities should be fragments.lastly as:result itself maybe doesn't have these semantics defined, so should a subproperty or different property be used, or do we skip non-CRUD results? Why skip non-CRUD results? I think side effects shouldn't be limited to basic activities like Create/Update/Add/Remove.@steve

Hello FediverseIf everything works out according to plan, when I hit publish on this post it will show up in the #Fediverse. After a year of on-and-off attempts, to implement #ActivityPub on this website, with no success, I have hopefully cracked it! Well, when I say “I have hopefully cracked it,” what I mean is @pfefferle@mastodon.social and the #WordPress “open office hours” program, have cracked it. It turns out; if you have a problem with the WordPress ActivityPub plugin, the best thing to do is disable other plugins and, though a process of elimination, see if one of them is the issue. So big thanks to Mathias and WordPress for your help on this. Now this is working and I am broadcasting out into the Fediverse, I feel like I should modify my content a little to appeal to all of you woke, leftists, godless, communists 🙂 out there. For a while I was far too smitten with the every little #Sustainability initiative, every little carbon reduction program, and every other bit of  #GreenWashing that was put out there by brands. Full confession I actually believed that ElonMusk wanted to save the planet! Yeh I know, I was naive…While I do continue to applaud any actions that a corporation takes, that materially helps either people or planet, it’s clear that problems are systemic. We need corporations to shift from Shareholder Primacy to Stakeholder Capitalism, valuing environmental and social impact alongside profit. Or try someting completely different. Right now, if there is a more sustainable or ethical brand choice to be had, we should always take it, but we must understand, that we are not “saving the planet” with those choices, just minimising our impact. Nebula TV channel, Our Changing Climate,  has this excellent video on the subject of Ethical Consumerism. It turns out, that whoever first pointed out “Corporations are Psychopaths” was mostly correct – How a corporation is designed to function, putting shareholders before people and planet, is psychopathic behaviour. (Psychopathic behaviour includes a lack of empathy and remorse, superficial charm, manipulation, and a disregard for social norms and the rights of others.) The only solution is to rewrite corporate charters and incorporation acts and include specific legal provisions that mandate environmental and social responsibility, shifting the core purpose of business beyond mere profit maximisation. Ultimately Corporations and their leaders are never going to fully act in the best interests of people and planet, because that’s not what they were created to do.So the plan, for 2026, is to be posting more content here that challenges both brands and the whole system. To shine a light on the negative impacts to people and planet that brands are having. And to share more content about organisations and companies working on regeneration and decarbonisation. Please follow and share your thoughts and ideas below.#activitypub #branding #corporations #fediverse #sustaiability #sustainability #wordpress

@julian Pretty much my intention, even though that is SO BAD for an ADHD brain.I'm going to end up taking notes on deep decarbonization of fediverse intermobility urban networks bridging Halifax during extreme Bonfire events ....(yes I am still mashing up "fediverse" and "urbanism" but whatever gave it away?)

Apparently there's a group called the 分散型SNSユーザー有志(Decentralized SNS User Volunteers). It seems to be a separate decentralized SNS group from Tyazuki's 分散型SNSの会(Decentralized SNS Gathering) and Nawashiro's Decentralized SNS Meetup@continue5645@misskey.io. This "Decentralized SNS User Volunteers" group appears to be run by someone called もちもちずきん(Mochi-Mochi-Zukin). By the way, my group @KawaneRio@misskey.io is the Misskey VRChat Group @MiVRC@misskey.io. Wait, that's even more niche than decentralized SNS...#Fediverse分散型SNSユーザー有志といふものがあるらしい。
