@Thad @mcc I was in doubt too about voting for “a compiler”. Kind of depends on the language and how good do we want it to be, but it is something I could tackle. I opted not to vote for “an operating system”, although for a sufficiently relaxed definition of “reasonable amount of time and access to etc” I could probably hack up something DOS-like.

Another thing that people honed in on was "software engineering" versus "programming", "software development", or other names for building software. I didn't intend it as a major focus, but I did want to cover all the parts of the job of getting software made -- not just typing code.

Adoro quella leggera curva che nasconde la bellezza che ti aspetta subito dopo, un dolce "agguato" teso da "Lei", che sta lì dal II-III secolo d.C., e dal mare.
