@mikemccaffrey @azonenberg @alice I'm looking.
Found a video...but it's on YouTube.

@azonenberg holy shit that's awesome!

@azonenberg @alice That is so freaking cool.
25µm2 doesn't sound like you had a lot of room for wiggle. 😆
I think I'm somewhat familiar with the tool, the Versa? I knew someone who used something similar I believe.
That is really cool, congrats on your innovation!
@jackryder (removing alice to not spam her mentions)
It could have been a lot smaller, I chose this size for artistic reasons. If you engraved the whole thing in a few microns square, nobody would be able to tell it was carved into a hair.
It had to be large enough you could see the shape of the hair too. So if someone just wanted to break the record there's plenty of opportunity to do so, I just think it would have less artistic merit if TOO small.
It was a dual beam scanning electron microscope / focused ion beam (SEM/FIB), using the electron beam for imaging and the ion beam for cutting and manipulation. These are normally used in semiconductor design for cross sectioning, failure analysis, and rewiring prototype chips to test bug fixes before spending millions of dollars on a new silicon revision.
The FEI Versa 3D is a specific make/model, the exact microscope I used was the one in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's materials science department (https://cmdis.rpi.edu/equipment/dual-beam-sem-and-fib) back when I was a PhD student there.

I was thinking there was a guinness but also a "speed runner" kind of place? More digital?
I'm kind of shocked there is only one category to be honest. It seems like there would be at least a handful of them as standard. Locks have whole grades. I might be a pro at certain types but completely unaware of other mechanisms.
There should be a site or a group or a union... someone who can award people who do extra in the community.
@jackryder there used to be a site for lockpicking speedruns, but now it's a parked spam site.

@azonenberg 💯
I totally get the reason for not going smaller. I think it was a smart choice.That's really cool man. Excellent usage of science.

@alice @azonenberg That seems wrong, ethically.
Spam sites take everything good. :/

@alice @jackryder Maybe see if TOOOL wants to set up a record database or something?
"most locks opened in one minute with a dildo" is definitely one you would be the undisputed winner of

@azonenberg @alice RIGHT?!
How amazing would that be? Get a sponsership from goodvibes...

@alice @jackryder Funny thing is, while I was pretty sure at the time I created it that it was the world's smallest comic, I didn't know the conference organizers had submitted it to Guinness and had it certified as such until years later.
I was looking for a link to the video to show someone after it came up in conversation and the Guinness link was the first hit.

@azonenberg
That is hilarious actually. I kind of like that it was an unintentional world record. -
@alice I feel like Alice is trying to condition me to be horny at the sights of locks.
@purplerabbit @alice If you haven't done it yet go to the next best local lockpicking meetup in your area, there'll be some (usually) very friendly nerds eager to teach you the basics, and once the first lock pops, you'll never wanna stop! 😋
-
"I hear what you're doing in here!"
"God, mom, don't come in! I'm doing security research!"
@alice Is that what the kids call it these days ?
Language changes so fast

It took several takes to get the money shot here. When it slipped out the first time, I thought I blew it 😅

@alice Whenever I go window shopping in downtown #Amsterdam, I wonder what those are for...

I need a nap after that.

@alice The kinda lock-picking you need a snack after
-
@azonenberg @jackryder @alice this is almost as impressive as Shahrir really liking your work. Super cool.

@alice *laughs a lot* But it seems like an effective technique. So it seems like your challenge is to get somebody super-serious, like LPL, to feature it.......
