turns out switching from gnome to KDE on fedora is *really easy* https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/switching-desktop-environments/

blah, I got it to stop hijacking 3+ finger touch events, but 3+ simultaneous presses cause only the first two to be reported by pygame, and the subsequent touch and release events are not reported. problematic for playing chords :/
ok it looks like there's probably two touch cancel events coming in that pygame doesn't recognize. since there's no gesture events following it, it might be the case that KDE is still detecting the gesture, attempting to cancel the touch events it already sent, and then doing nothing with the gesture because I disabled the stuff it would trigger.

I'm tired of the stench of perpetual inevitable failure. gonna go play Hades 2 now and worry about all this linux later.

@aeva i hate gestures (the computer thing not people moving hands)

someone should teach linux developers Game Design. linux would be a lot more fun if you could get enhancements and power-ups each run that persist into future runs

@lritter I hate that gnome and KDE both make the assumption that they own your middle and ring fingers

@shinmera linux is not a rogue like it's just perpetually broken

@aeva personally, *when* i use touch for something serious, i prefer the pen, partly because of vastly improved precision, partly because i don't look like a confused primate using it.

@lritter I look awesome when I use a touch screen
-
@aeva what if the touch screen is 1" x 1"
-
@lritter a pen wouldn't work here though because my use case in the singular correct obvious thing to do with multi-touch screen which is to use it to make polyphonic instruments
-

@lritter magic. I'll take 100 of them
-
@aeva you'll get ONE (production shortage)

@aeva yeah that's... a completely legitimate and very cool application.

@aeva with some transparent nubs on screen you'd even have finger guides to play it sightless

@lritter I wonder if chopping up a screen protector might work for that. At any rate, totally attainable, it just seems that one simply needs to first write a wayland compositor from scratch or somehow convince the people who make them to stop making bad decisions

Stop using Wayland. It's a shitty protocol designed by people who didn't/don't knew/know what they're doing.
Heck, just recently I came across a Mesa driver developer who openly demonstrated, that they were clueless about how desktop compositors do work. Conversely a lot of desktop compositor developers are totally clueless about how GPUs work.
I challenge you to browse through the OpenGL related part of Hyprland, and take the time until you start to slap your head or vomit.

@datenwolf @lritter I need you to understand: I. HATE. WAYLAND. WITH. ALL. MY. HEART. AND. I. HATE. EVERYTIHNG. THAT. LED. TO. ME. USING. IT.
