Hello my friends.

Hello my friends. This is Mohammed Shobair from Gaza. Last night in Gaza City was the most terrifying, we thought it was too late and everything was over. Flares everywhere in the sky, noise everywhere around us. Please keep us in your mind, in your heart, in your prayers. Thank God, we are still alive. My family and I are now on our way South. This is most devastating. I don’t know how much more we can take. God is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of all things.

This is not *happening* to us. This is not natural causes. This is not a Godly punishment.
This is: some people decide to do this to us. Some people want us to suffer and to be erased. And the world knows, the world is watching, and yet it still goes on.
It’s more important than ever that you stand by us and that you do everything you can to stop this.

We left Gaza City but we don’t even know where we’re going. We’re just wandering and hoping to find a place to live. There’s not even enough space to pitch a tent. Nowhere.
What is this? Until when?
What type of life is this? -

@img I don’t know if this is a serious message or not, but I’ll reply as if it was serious.
Israel built a wall like that all around the Gaza Strip. They don’t want us on the land they claim is theirs. We can’t go to the land claimed by Israel.
-
@img And Egypt built a similar wall too. That border is also controlled by Israel.
The Egyptian government has been repeating for the past 77 years that they wouldn’t let us out of the Gaza Strip anyway.
@img My family comes from a village called Hamama, 25 kilometres north of Gaza. In 1948, the Israelis came and expelled everyone and they destroyed the village to make sure Palestinians couldn’t return. Our family was never allowed back.
Wikipedia now says:
In 1992 it was noted: "No traces of village houses or landmarks remain. The site is overgrown with wild vegetation, including tall grasses, weeds, and bushes. It also contains cactuses. The surrounding land is unused." -

@mohshbair i often feel useless to do anything /really meaningful/ to help. donations to individual palestinians, to palestinian aid organisations, attending demos, yelling at my MP...nothing seems to work or shift your material circumstances quickly enough. thank you, mohammed, for the links. you're in my heart & mind.

My dear friend @kathimmel, someone sent me this message two days ago, and it perfectly captures my thoughts. Sometimes it's hard to hold on to hope and not give in to despair. But that means they win. Thank you so much for everything you do. May God answer us and reward you abundantly. You are in my heart and mind as well. 🤍🤍🌹🍉💔
