Suddenly I'm seeing some animated profile pictures. I already have turned off "Auto-play animated GIFs" in settings. How to turn off all animations including profile pictures?

#AskFedi@dillyd Do you use the Mastodon site/app? Or something else. Settings vary depending on what you log in with and maybe there’s been some updates that reset things.

@dillyd @stephaniepixie If @IceCubesApp is like the other apps I use, there are individual setting in the app to turn off animated profiles.

I could've sworn I had it turned off before. Not sure how they got turned on.
@dillyd A piece of software may have glitched an incorrect setting on or off? I have experienced that hundreds of times, really.

Must have been. It's the kind of setting that I always turn off. I don't need extraneous things moving on my screen. -

I disabled this setting in IceCubes and no longer see animations in user names.
I haven’t seen accounts that use animated gifs in profile pictures. Can you send me an example.
I might be able to fix that. I’ve been making a few very simple changes to IceCubes and contributing them.

I found it, thanks. It must turned on through some glitch, but I turned it back off. But I didn't know you were contributing to IceCubes. Thanks for your service! It's my favorite app.

#AskFedi@dillyd From my experience, the Mastodon web interface has (had?) trouble disabling animations for .webm images. I have that setting turned off as well, and so far, I've only seen .webm images be animated without me hovering over them. Haven't seen this happen with profile pictures yet, but it would be a plausible explanation at least

I understand the consent respecting aspect, but if the behaviour is "allow all", it should be as simple as a flag.
Too bad I didn't pay enough attention to the FEP draft.

I only ever post when I have something concrete to show. It means I have less engagement, but it also means I never over promise.
It does not mean I am right. I think the right balance lies somewhere in between.

@rimu @liaizon @silverpill no, you still need to respond to the activities. the bit you quoted is only a hint so clients know whether their activity will be accepted

@liaizon @rimu @silverpill you need to handle incoming activities, but your response can be dynamic taking in uris of quoted object and quoting object. i think someone was talking about implementing a stamp generator as an endpoint using query parameters -- you could include that in your response
