It's been over 20 years of majority right wing governments in The Netherlands. Literally every demographic complains about the cost of living crisis, the insane housing shortage, poverty increasing significantly, the pension age now being 72, more homelessness, the unfair medical deductible, people needing foodbanks, increased stress, and the wealth gap being one of the worst in the world.
So guess what the people voted for this time? Jup, right wing parties.

And yes I consider D66 right wing. Let's hope they'll consider a coalition with PvdA-GL.

@Gina holy moly... this is one hell of a "Today I Learned". :o(
Up until now, I thought Netherlands was more progressive than this. 72 for retirement age? This is nuts! All the other things you point out are very concerning, too.
I now understand that it's not just the weather that you're wanting to get away from...
At least your government has the concept of "coalitions" and it's not a two-party circle-jerk like in USA.

@Gina
Don't count on it, I cannot find anything viable over left ๐ I predict: D66, VVD, CDA and JA21.You're so right to move abroad ๐ญ
Edit: ugh no, not a majority. Going to be a loooong formation ๐

@Gina Interesting that the left wing Guardian describes D66 as "centrist" and "progressive". Would you describe The Guardian as "centrist"? ๐

@underlap def happier with D66 than PVV or VVD, since they are very progressive. But there's a difference between "equal chances" and "equal outcomes." I'm of the opinion that everyone deserves a good life. Not everyone with equal chances will have equal outcomes, because not everyone has the capabilities or fortune to win at capitalism. That's where I see the difference between left (equal outcomes) and centrist-right (equal chances) and why I lump D66 in with the right.
