GIMP has again been accepted as part of the Google Summer of Code project - see the link for details and some project ideas.
We have a no-AI policy: in particular we need people who will understand the code they write :-) and write code that we can maintain.
Feel free to get in touch - see https://www.gimp.org/discuss.html

no-AI policy means that you can't use even use it to solve a doubt or to check for typos and errors?
🤷♂️

@freezr ok ok, there was a typo :-) fixed, thanks!
We are not AI-Police but someone trying to use “vibe coding” is not likely to pass. The best thing we get out of Summer of Code is long-term contributors..

I understand, but I am pretty sure that new students are already dealing with AI and their profs are not fighting against it. I understand that "code vibes" is unsustainable and it must not allowed, I was just wondering if these new contributors are anyway allowed to use AI as assistant and code checker.

@freezr we have no control over what they do at home, so to speak :)
A danger of people using an AI code checker is that they sometimes get into arguments when the AI says one thing and the project programmers another, so that needs to be avoided of course

@GIMP like, it's sad how many ai apoogists will drop under such posts complaining about "b-b-but I use it to fix typo or to learn 😳🥺".
If you use this already, maybe ask AI to summarize for you what "no AI allowed" means, because this seems too hard for you to grasp it.
