Are GIFs a thing on Mastodon?

Are GIFs a thing on Mastodon? I rarely see them around… I’m kinda missing a reaction GIF culture. Am I alone in that?

@hpod16 I seamlessly add them using the iOS app Ivory by Tapbots… but yeah, I agree with you, they are pretty rare here.

Fun fact: I have an official GIPHY creator channel with 2 billion views 💁🏻‍♀️ (I actively used it from 2017-2020). Maybe it’s time I resurrect it to create GIFs and stickers to promote the Fediverse

I use Trunks to schedule, but my preferred way to access mastodon right now is just on the browser on my phone

Can relate. I keep a reaction GIF library on my work laptop for teams chats with colleagues.

@_elena @hpod16 I was mostly making gifs for many years. I took it really seriously for a long time. I was one of the first 20 "artists" added to Giphy's artist spotlight thing back before they were sold to Meta.. I was recently trying to get some of my old 3D film photography gifs back up at @gesticulation

@hpod16 Isn't GIF a totally dead format? GIF was a big thing back then. But now usually you'd have animated webp and modern video formats for animated stuff and of course jpeg, png and webp for static.
