@peteorrall True, but I’m talking to many of my colleagues here. Instead of giving in to the charm of a Docker container on a Kubernetes cluster in the cloud, think carefully about whether it’s really the best choice. And I don’t just mean from a technical point of view.

Freedom versus convenience. This right here. Owning your own data is so important. But....it's also easier said than done.

@radhitya Today it's AI. Yesterday it was Blockchain or cryptocurrencies. Who knows what it will be tomorrow.
Will humanity ever learn that before throwing tons of money at something, it would be worth thoroughly evaluating its pros, cons, and real-world applicability?

I had this recent exchange with my wife:
Wife: What is FreeBSD?
Me: It's Unix, an operating system, and it's awesome!
Wife: Oh OK. The only reason I asked is because I am finding these FreeBSD CDs around the house. FreeBSD 12.0, 13.3, 14.0.
Me: Yeah, I use the old versions as coasters for my tea mugs.
Wife: *pauses, laughs* I can see that.

@Lucatermite @GualTRex ❤️ bellissima intervista, sinceramente chi e cosa vota o prega non mi è mai interessato, ma poi come dice ha sempre fatto il contrario di quello che tutti facevano, guardare alla russia quando tutti guardavno agli USA, e via così.
Immaginavo che i CSI si sarebbero riformati d'altronde dopo un tale successo con i CCCP non potevano che completare il quadro.
Non vedo l'ora!!

In the past few days I’ve seen talk about RAM prices shooting up due to demand from big datacenters.
Today I read that a historic brand like Crucial - I own plenty of their hardware, including SSDs - is dropping consumer products to focus on gear for those same datacenters.
The result (or maybe the intention?) is to push people away from self hosting, undermine the OwnYourData idea and make everyone depend on huge datacenters for life.So much for owning your data.
So much for decentralisation.Because taking down one giant datacenter is far easier than taking down thousands or millions of individual nodes.
Friends and colleagues, don’t trade your freedom for a bit of convenience. Once you give it away, getting it back is very hard.
Always Own Your Data.
