@taylorlorenz We should market the Fediverse as fun, not only as virtuous. It’s like praising your fruit as „healthy“. True, but I buy where it says „sweet“ 🍇
@taylorlorenz honestly, the people that love (are addicted to?) Tiktok and Instagram *want* an algorithm feeding them, or at least want the option. Additionally, Mastodon simply doesn't have the same addiction-based behavioral design... When most of your time is spent reading text or viewing a static image, the endorfin hit is just much smaller and spread out. In that way neither does Twitter, but the last ingredient is siloed rage. Fewer people with more consistent views means less excitement.
@taylorlorenz transparency/trust on legal & effective free speech protection; commercial content instances (de)-federation; lack of visibility for famous accounts; lack of context for posts; lack of any algorithm.
And additionally the fact that commercial social media to everything to maximize engagement and time on the platform, while Mastodon tries to keep the protocol and the initial instance up, running, and minimally sane.
My Mastodon instance disappeared without warning, so I'm starting over here. In the winter, you'll see mostly bird pictures and the rest of the year, you will also see flower, insect and landscape pictures. You won't find politics here and I won't try to sell you anything. I always include an ALT with my pictures. Here's a recent one of a pileated woodpecker. #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #photography #nature #naturephotography
Went to close the cat window and found them busily watching a little sparrow calmly pulling tiny seeds off plants. The three of us watched the bird for a while, then I reached up to slide the window closed and 5 of them flew away. Maybe the cats saw the others, but I only thought there was one. #birds #CatsOfMastodon
