Hey lovelies π©·
We think we've possibly got a few followers and mutuals who are blind and use some kinds of iOS mobile devices, right?
Enquiring because of a random encounter with another plural trans+ being on Reddit, who advised that they're legally blind and had not found any suitably accessible way to access the fediverse.
Can anybody advise whether there are any such ways, so we can give them some way or ways to join the friendlier fediverse community?
If not, they're stuck largely with Reddit and Bluesky π π
The topic only came up after we advised that we'd found fedi to be much more plural friendly and accepting that most other such places... especially Reddit.
For clarity, we have zero experience of iOS and are not blind (at least presently at least), so we'd appreciate any firsthand experiences very much π«Άπ»
Edit: Thank you so much for all answers! We've passed on the info. Hopefully something like Mona App, iOS's screen reader (VoiceOver), TweeseCake, Feditext, or the default Mastodon app will be accessible and useful for them π₯°π©·π«Ά

@SleepyCatten Mona is usually well regarded for its accessibility, in fact I think that was its original purpose

@SleepyCatten in my experience the regular mastodon app is pretty good for voiceover use on iOS

@SleepyCatten We had this discussion in a German thread (mainly with B/VI people): basically the standard web UI for Mastodon seems to be really good re VoiceOver. If they are willing to pay something, @MonaApp is AFAIK best for accessibility.

@SleepyCatten Hi hi! I know of two off the top of my head that your people might be interested in checking out, but there may be more. Feditext (free, iOS only) and Mona (free and paid, iOS and mac). Both are accessible with iOS's built-in screen reader, Voice Over.

@Fragglemuppet You are the tried and true expert :)@noondlyt @SleepyCatten Ah, I'm hardly an expert, but thanks! I imagine they use Voiceover already. That's the only screen reader for IOS that I know of. I would suggest a site like Enafore.social. Oh, if they're looking for an instance, I forget the URL for that. Also don't remember if there are other Mac clients.

I use the official client on Android with Talkback. It's usable. So I imagine it should be OK on iOS too.

@SleepyCatten @_rya_ I am blind, I use an Iphone and I joyned mastodon. I use it with the Mona-App. I am not a tech expert, just a simple user, but I get along with this app and apples Screenreader voiceover pritty well.

Any instances you've found more or less accessible yourself?
We seem to recall you were on a different instance maybe originally?

@SleepyCatten Every instance is accessible. I left Tweesecake because the admin did a poor job, which is putting it mildly.
