    @dazo First, please don't get me wrong: Like anyone else, I don't want my data to be sold, and at the very last by the browser I've been using as my daily driver for anything internet for years.But the question I can't find a viable answer for is: How can Firefox become a sustainable organization?Selling our data is a no-go, that's for sure. But how do they make the money required to not only maintain but also invest in Firefox?

    @nicolaschevobbe @adamhotep I also had to look that up, but here's an example where a shadow DOM is used: In MDN's web dev playground, they want to isolate the CSS you write to only act on "your" HTML, not on the entire site. So they put it in a shadow root.So $$ doesn't access the <h1> here, but $$$ does!

    well today's #FreeSoftwareAdvent is a bit bittersweet.Back at the beginning of the month, I plotted all the projects on my remind(1) calendar, grouping various categories together. Two days ago, lynx¹, yesterday was Dillo², and today it was supposed to be #Firefox. Yet this week has been full of sad Firefox news, with them ignoring users' desires to keep AI rubbish out of the browser (or at least relegated to an optional plugin)The browser that I started using as Netscape, grew to be Communicator, that kinda became Phoenix, then shed the non-browser functions off to Thunderbird (already got mentioned³) and became Firefox.     Switched browsers from Firefox to Waterfox this AM. From the bsky thread, they seem to be having a glitch where FF's not showing up as an import option, but I simply exported bookmarks as HTML and imported that way. I don't save logins in my browser and don't really use extensions, so that was about all I needed.Now I'm relogging into my main accounts (like mastodon).
