When I decided to change it I noted since most people that knew me, knew me online, it just kind of made sense. My mother even prefers it to the one she gave me too.

guys, what’s the coolest first name you’ve ever seen or heard in person? doesn’t have to be a name you’d give your own kid, just something that made you go “damn, what a cool name”.
I ask because one of my nephew’s besties is called Endeavour and that is a COOL name.
(his mates call him Noun, which is hilarious)

I'm pretty jealous of cool names because our parents gave us the most 80s American soap opera names possible. To be fair, they weren't very common in the UK, but even still.
@astronomerritt My sisters were given french names that sound very exotic in the US: Yvette and LaVonne. I was named after my father because assholes have egos.

@hedders Oh dear. Bless their little hearts. I do think a lot of these virtue names are a lot to saddle a child with. What if Unique wants to be basic?

@astronomerritt My mother promised her dad on his deathbed that if she ever had a son, she'd give his name (James). Was a big fight after I was born over that. I was given James as my middle name, which was different than my dad's (John), but he insisted that I have 'Jr' tacked on anyway. 'Junior' was actually part of my name until I changed it.
A repulsive man. 'Asshole' is the nicer way of putting it. Calling him what he was would get a Youtube video demonitized.

@kittylyst I've always loved the idea of Persephone as a name, but always thought "that's just asking to be called Percy though", so I feel quite vindicated to learn I was right 😆

@roknrol This is perhaps a personal question, but do you find that people get weirdly offended when you say things like that? I was raised by an abusive grandmother and I often express relief and joy that she's dead, and people can be SO WEIRD about that. It's refreshing to hear someone else say a hearty "good riddance" about a family member.

@astronomerritt I knew a Gandalf. He was a hip-hop dance teacher. (I didn't know him to talk to. He was far too cool - partly because of the dancing, partly because of the name.)

@astronomerritt I found my father-in-law had an aunt called Aviellria. I loved it so much that I gave it to my main character in my fantasy WIP.
Endeavour always makes me think of Inspector Morse. But I do like Verity as a name.
My sister was going to name her son Eben. But she abandoned it because everyone kept saying, 'What, you mean Ebenezer?' Some people associated it with Scrooge, but I could only think "E's are good E's are good. He's Ebenezer Good!'

Different resources serve different needs, and that's okay. The "normies" you mention aren't stupid at all, they're smart enough to choose the right tool for their needs, which often isn't a manual FreeBSD setup, and that's perfectly valid.

Same applies to anything else.. law, cooking, building etc.
