Let's put aside for the moment how risible it is that a man named Cuomo and another named Sliwa were trying to other someone for having an unusual name.
What I loved about this moment was realizing how many New Yorkers watching had experienced this same kind of microaggression and fucking hate it.
They were trying to make Mamdani the other, but they were being the *real* other -- the racist white man who tries to make you feel small.
@matt OK, but it still feels bad. You have to run the service as root, and then start a session as a user, and then install an apk, and then launch the package...but the package icon doesn't show up if I just use the `show-full-ui` option. It feels so fiddly. Seems like somebody who understands how all the pieces work ought to be able to make a single command that spins everything up and runs an apk, without this complicated dance?
Now that's a properly professional attack. Excellent pretext; leverages expectations around windows' notoriously poor stability for end users; the malware accounts for Defender; it uses the presence of an obscure, machine-readable-but-human-obtuse measure to guide user action; and apparently it's got clear enough directions to get users to -compile software on the machine-.
This is truly exceptional; well fucking done on some actual -proper- villainy.
I started this poll because I was thinking about how Andrew Cuomo and to some extent Curtis Sliwa, in the New York mayoral race, repeatedly and intentionally mispronounced Zohran Mamdani's name, in an obvious attempt to other him. Here's a clip about it.
Skipping #Monsterdon because I simply cannot do that to myself tonight. We’ve started Welcome To Derry instead. The very first scene was a doozy, so I’m hoping it’ll be a fun (and scary) ride.
