I'm excited to release Just the Browser! It helps you remove AI features, sponsored content, shopping integrations, and other annoyances from desktop web browsers.
This project includes configuration files (group policies), a simple setup script, and guides for manual installation. It supports Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Everything is open-source on GitHub.
@corbin Great project. Thanks. A great improvement might be to have the implementation in a Ubuntu/Debian package and to activate the Configuration by installing this package.

Now, for even better privacy and security, we should have a Linux edition.
@Adam_Howard @corbin It's already there. I just ran it on Mint 22.2. It's just a shell script.

@corbin I got a chance to look at this and wow, it's really just that simple? I'm going to throw a copy of the Firefox .json file, text instructions, and link for updates in my "list of things to do after a reinstall to make the OS and apps behave" workflow

Great easy way to get rid of AI in my firefox instances, thank you!
1 criticsim about the homepage:
It is not transparent, that the browser download links redirect to google/mozilla/microsoft servers with their original versions. Some naive users may think, it would be sufficient to (re-)download one of the browsers without copying the script.
So I don't share that link to non IT-affine people. -

Curious about Safari’s absence. Is it because there’s not much you’d change, or is it because it’s not easy the changes are hard to make? -

There's also less of a need for forced settings because AFAIK it doesn't quietly revert your settings later, like Edge does.

Backup software that handles highly sensitive data would be a prime target for such a supply chain attack.

@cwebber From what I can see, and through the connections I share, they're an IT consultancy that focuses on data analysis & visualization, particularly for defense and law enforcement. The people crossover points towards the kind of business I would have avoided working for back when that was my stomping ground... Not quite Palantir-level, but leaning in that direction, it seems.
These firms seem to like ruining good words & literature references.

@mos_8502 I plan to make my own tunes for the game I'm working on, but if I were trying to save money, I would license existing work. Find chiptunes you like from the existing catalog of folks you enjoy and fit your game, and ask if you can pay a license fee to use it. Since the work is already done, it's just a little bonus for the artist and maybe they like the idea of their work getting more exposure...chiptunes alone don't have a big audience.
