Is anyone using Mastodon as their primary social media and is it working for you?
@LianaBrooks not my primary social media platform but it hasnt given me any problems in the nearly 4 years ive been on it
-
@LianaBrooks Yes this is my primary social media interaction but I am not as satisfied with it as I would wish to be. It's harder to find the types of accounts I am interested in following - predominantly news and arts/culture - but it feels safer and more affirming than twitter ever did. Still, I would like more community within my interests.

I'm wondering if you have tried following/searching by tags related to your interests. That's how I usually find my people.

@LianaBrooks Yes, and not really. The app I’m using (the mastodon app) doesn’t seem super reliable so there are days I can’t load it on my phone (and I know I should try a different app but I haven’t). Mostly I don’t feel really connected here, which is mostly because I don’t interact regularly. But it just hasn’t replaced the feeling of friends and connection I had on fb. (I won’t go back to Facebook though.)

@LianaBrooks
Yes and yes! -
@LianaBrooks primary? It's my *only* social media (unless you count Signal, Matrix, or email).
Once I got settled on Mastodon, I poisoned and deleted my last remaining social accounts.
I have zero regrets.

@LianaBrooks
Yes, and what do you mean by "working for you"? -
@iwein @Tusky @LianaBrooks Maybe I will try Tusky! And I will wish us both luck in finding a sense of connection. I’m really lucky to have connections outside of social media - a couple book clubs, and I facilitate a couple peer groups and am doing some collective narrative projects. But I still really miss the feeling I used to have in social media spaces, that felt like casually running across friends in public space. Maybe it will come with time.

@LianaBrooks Yes and yes. I deleted my facebook account which I have wanted to do for years.

@LianaBrooks its even working as my only social media.

Is anyone using Mastodon as their primary social media and is it working for you?
@LianaBrooks Yep, I'm only on Masto and Plurk. I don't need any other SocMed in my life.

Is anyone using Mastodon as their primary social media and is it working for you?
@LianaBrooks I don't use it completely. I still have some content on X, Instagram and Facebook. Much because of my family members and the content that we share between us (me and my wife). I tried to convince her to use it here, but it wasn't good.

Yes, and Kind Of.
I'd prefer if mastodon started off as a shitty facebook clone instead of a shitty twitter clone.

@LianaBrooks
Yes and yes.I don’t want wide reach and I don’t want promoted content in my feed.
I want to find nice weirdos and be weird on the internet together.

@LianaBrooks I've been using fediverse as my only social media since 2019. Works for me. -

@LianaBrooks not just pimary, but exclusively. No other account onany other platform. Guess iI’ll never be an influencer. Couldn’t be happier about that

Yes and yes.
After about 20 years on Facebook, I deleted my account there a few months ago, when they announced that they wanted to add AI that would scape user profiles. I had deleted my Twitter account after Musk bought it and turned it into an online Nazi bar. (I gave up Myspace a long while ago too.)
Microsoft seems to want to add "social" functions to LinkedIn, but I don't want to even "like" any political posts there.
I like the community I find here on Mastodon.

@LianaBrooks I've ended up ditching everything else. I have a Matrix account I still use from time to time, but it's mostly to talk to one person I have no other means to talk to I guess. (Everyone else just ignored me there. People really really do not like Matrix for some reason... I honestly don't quite get the hate, though I do agree it is hardly perfect.)
I do hate the character limits sometimes though. Even on an instance with a larger limit it's often holding me back. (Hey, communication is hard.) Well, it's still better than a certain commercial platform.
Thanks to the way hashtags are used here it has actually been kind of helpful to find some stuff I might not normally run across, so there's that, but I feel like I do see a lot less people.

Is anyone using Mastodon as their primary social media and is it working for you?
@LianaBrooks Yes. Pretty reasonably well: it's chiller than FB was and there's _way_ more retrocomputing nerds, queers, furries, and other neurodivergent people here.
I miss keeping up with some of the people I was FB friends with, but I no longer have to see various relations' politics, especially valuable since last year.

yes and yes. Left Twitter 3 years ago and have enjoyed being in the Fediverse ever since. Being able to manage who and what topics I follow has been great.
