I was one of the first people to order a Steam Deck—buying it within minutes of the announcement.
At the time, my reasoning was simple: if it could run even a fraction of my Steam library, it’d be worth it. All I ever wanted was to play PC games on the go without lugging around a desktop or laptop.
When it finally arrived in February 2022, it blew me away. It didn’t just play a handful of my games—it handled almost all of them. And by then, my library numbered in the thousands.
What really surprised me is how useful it still is. I never expected it to run AAA titles at ultra settings. But as a device for vintage and indie games? It’s unmatched.
Take Septerra Core, for example. It’s never been released on console—let alone a handheld. Yet here I am, playing it on a train, at the park, or lying in bed.
Three years later, the novelty still hasn’t worn off. The Steam Deck didn’t just make PC gaming portable—it made my entire library feel alive again. -
