This morning I forged a new gate latch for the veranda gate. It’s a simple rotating bar with U shaped stops and a wooden knob.
I’ve not put a finish in it yet, we’ll try it out for a week or so and then if no adjustments are needed I can clean it up and apply a finish.

The wooden knob kept coming loose, and while I could have epoxied it on, I didn't like that idea. If the knob ever needed replacement, I'd have to heat it up to get it off.
So instead, this morning, I forged a new knob from 12mm square mild steel bar.
It is flush riveted on via a tenon on the knob, and a countersink on the hole on the back of the locking bar.
