    Some implementations skip some of these steps, because they are focused only on processing messages as they arrive. So, I am reluctant to overemphasize the message processing at the expense of the personal datastore functionality.

    However, I think ActivityPub builds up persistent state on the server side which can be read and used by other processors.

    For example, when I `Like` something, it goes into my `liked` collection, and the activity goes into the `likes` for that object. The `Like` activity goes into my `outbox` and others' `inbox`. People can review that information and use it.

    Thank you, that is nice to hear. I am however not an expert, am but a humble generalist and a person who'd love to be in that Solution developer stakeholder role. Who however does not see the fediverse trend in a direction where I'd adopt the technology for what I have in mind. Drifting away from "the promise" that I read in the specs in 2017, and which at the time made me decide to lend a helping hand here and there as facilitator and tech advocate.

    @smallcircles @cwebber @steve I would personally really appreciate that. I also think it'd be helpful for the ecosystem. I like that you combine a high-level social and technical approach to discussions of ActivityPub and the Social Web with an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the details. It's a rare combination and extremely valuable.

    So why don't you use the word REST? I never encountered "read-write API". It is an informal term.

    But that is not the point. You can have a REST API, fine. But that says nothing in itself. What does it expose? You might say "Duh.. ActivityPub!" but that is not very informative either. There is the notion of message exchange, and of an addressing mechanism, indicating higher level abstractions that conform to well-known architecture patterns, and would allow us to have more productive communication, delve less in implementation details and confusions of protocol behavior with solution design functionality, for starters.

    Summer/Autumn 2025: Little coding, but lots of socializing and planningAt the first October weekend I (@linos) was attending the Berlin FediDay 2025. It was a meetup of the Berlin and German community, developers of Fediverse applications, and representatives of German speaking media institutions. It was great to see old friends again and meet some online contacts for the first time. We were discussing the future and the role of the Fediverse, which was super motivating. #FediDayTwo weeks later, I travelled to Sofia, Bulgaria, to attend this year’s OpenFest, give a talk and lead a workshop on how the Fediverse can help announce and discover events. Unfortunately, the talk didn’t attract much attention, as LLMs are currently drawing more of an audience. But the discussions with those in attendance were very interesting. The workshop was mainly about trying out #Gancio, #WordPress and #Mastodon and learning about the possibilities for local communities by trying out the applications themselves. I simply provided real test instances, created a list of tasks, including minor pitfalls, and, of course, answered all the questions that came up – and there were quite a few! And a big thank you to the crew and the organizing team, who were so friendly and simply wonderful throughout. #OpenFestYesterday, I had an awesome online meeting with the incredibly cool folks behind LAUTI, a free and open-source software for hosting small event calendars. #LAUTI is aimed at small and medium-sized communities and has a big focus on social, cultural and activist stuff. The instance for the Stuttgart area, run by the collective that develops it (@klasse_methode@chaos.social), can be found at https://einftopf.info. The developers are in the process of exploring the potential of #ActivityPub and the #Fediverse. I’m very excited and think this could be really great! In case you’ve been wondering: I see LAUTI kind of in between #Mobilizon and #Gancio. In my opinion, it would not be a competitor to them, but it could be a great addition to the Fediverse by filling this gap.I will be at the #SFSCON in Bolzano, Italy, in two weeks. There will be a whole afternoon focusing on the Fediverse! So in case you’re there you’re invited to join my short talk about Interoperability of Events in the Fediverse: status quo and vision.     @stefano overall i felt your conduct was well done. ive been in a similar situation and its not easy to navigate. staying professional as you always do and finding common ground the best you can usually works. to your point on eu/us. im a citizen of both. the general vibe in .us is blowtorch everyone on the internet (even businesses at times do it). whereas in .eu ive found reputation and following the guidelines to a t yields more fruit. the only way ive stayed sane (relatively speaking) is to keep a small client base that's diverse in vertical and operations, show value, keep them on long retainers and clearly defined contracts that spell out project proposal initiatives and what not. its served me well. btw the email migration reminds me of a similar situation when i migrated a healthcare entity from google to zimbra. this was over a decade ago. the client had an exclusive they did not disclose with a zimbra vendor which got ugly quickly. was fortunate enough at the time to have a client law practice (they keep me out of jail on red/black team gigs) who offered to settle the matter. luckily all could come to an agreement although i lost all revenue i kept the clients in a good spot. a year later ironically enough i was hired by zimbra to expand my migration tool. really respect how you conduct yourself and how transparent you always are. ciao!

    @haubles @Mastodon These are two major updates any great improvements.1/ ‚Quoots’ improve the CX on user level.2/ ‚managed hosting‘ is a great way to establish financial independence and also drive adaption. I am sure, many orgs will appreciate this service. And I cannot wait for more public services (e.g. the police) to post their updates on mastodon instead of [insert walled garden].Good job. 👍
