@catsalad Seriously, what is even the enforceability on any of this? Also, whats stopping all of us from saying we are 30? Does it actually tie to any sort of identification, or are we just effectively creating "kids accounts" ala Netflix?

we need to focus hard on building serious open hardware capacities, because if ppl will opt out of proprietary operating systems which verify age, they will move age verification into hardware, so we need to avoid proprietary hardware too. ...better to start immediately supporting that and sharing options, because its not a questiin IF, but only WHEN they will do that.

Buy new hardware now, not only because of Hormus, Taiwan and BigTech stressing memory prices, but because we all will have to wait several years for the autocratic regimes to grind each other up to the point where they crumble from their own ignorance.

Soms wait for times to change, others seizes it forcefully and act, because the best way to predict the future is to create it.
If we dont built the alternative and look for others who do to team up and support them to grow a strong alternative network that produces the future we want - we will for sure NOT get the future we want.

@catsalad Governments create problems even when there aren't any. They constantly invent new obstacles for their populations in order to exercise control over them. Now another government is suggesting that open source OS should be subject to age verification. The fact that they are proposing this shows that they don't understand what FOSS is. These are Orwellian practices and, in my opinion, governments are doing this deliberately. They are consciously provoking rebellion.

That, by extension, squarely classifies the legislation as authoritarian.

I started wondering if my TV remote control was smart enough to have an operating system, then thought:
What happens when using remote display software to control multiple computers running different operating systems from a single monitor.
Will you have to verify your age on the local computer, then again on each remote one?
What happens if you have a multi-boot PC? Separate age verification for each OS?
So many questions, so much deep appreciation for the morons who have completely thought through every single ramification of this wonderful new idea; 🤮

@serapath @catsalad Computer hardware hobbyism is set to flourish once again. Buy a few Raspberry Pi's in case the hardware is tampered with. Governments are able to criminalize the possession of hardware because they believe it can be used against them. This era has completely gone off the rails. We need to take a good look at ourselves and consider who we give power to in elections.

@catsalad I am doing that already and it is great. I am using CachyOS and GrapheneOS. No Apple, Google or Microsoft.

Sono arrivata al punto in cui si parla del diritto di voto alle donne. Un libro che attraverso una saga familiare parla di un sacco di altre cose. Mi sorprende sempre più.
