Because if there isn't I am developing a very strong suspicion that NextCloud developers aren't the ones who do the housework in their households
@afewbugs relatedly, I'm pretty sure the people who design kitchen and bathroom fittings and furnishings have never cleaned a bathroom or kitchen, and don't do much cooking either

As a cleaner, married to a caretaker, I can assert that architects have never had to clean or maintain a building....

@suearcher @kitten_tech my fun story about architecture is I used to work in a university building designed by a famous and award winning architect. It had a recessed light well in the roof with a glass skylight at the bottom. The problem was there was no outlet pipe at the bottom of the light well, so when it rained it filled up with water like a huge suspended swimming pool

@suearcher @kitten_tech this was obviously a somewhat alarming state of affairs for those who had to work underneath it, trusting the strength of the glass, so it was drained and a sort of greenhouse like contraption built over the top to prevent it from refilling.

@suearcher @kitten_tech This was all before my time so I didn't witness it, but we did have to live with the consequences when I was working there which were that the top floor of the building was unbearably hot every summer due to being encased in a hastily erected greenhouse

I used to be handed all the papers at court for the cases I was dealing (up to 15+) could scan them, hand them to clients to read, and go back and take instructions. Easy. Now we get it on line at court (eventually). I can't pass my laptop over can I..FFS. -

If any @nextcloud developers happen to be reading this and want a feminist perspective, actually especially if they're reading and don't want a feminist perspective: there are two types of tasks, one off achievement tasks like build a website, write an article, paint a room where once it's done it's done, and recurring maintenance tasks: do the laundry, change the sheets, water the plants.
This reminds me of when I expressed surprise on their forum about the health app (now abandoned) not having an option to track menstruation. The obliviousness about the significance of that omission was disheartening.

@vfrmedia @emily_s @afewbugs If you compare to a client for the Exchange Server, you should compare with a client for Nextcloud. There is no UI for the underlaying Exchange Server. Therefore you should compare to a client like Thunderbird. There is no problem with recurring taskes generated in Thunderbird. They are syncronized with Nextcloud and other clients. Even the Tasks app for Android is capable generating recurring tasks. It is "just" Nextcloud's web UI which does not support it.

@worik You wont believe how useful automated reminders are and how often my partner encourages me to make more of them. She also uses them a lot. But yeah, it actually is useful to have for example a tri or bi-weekly recurring timed reminder to change the bedsheets etc. To be able to set them from the web interface is just neat because that's the closest to platform agnostic you can get with nearly no effort. @ljrk @afewbugs

I work in IT and just a few days ago was reflecting with somebody on how often user workflows are ignored (in the context of systems where you log in to see some protected data having poor support for showing others that data; I was congratulating them on having a good mechanism for making a share link!)

@afewbugs @suearcher my favourite repeat offender is having unsealed chipboard or MDF edges butted against a tiled floor, which is tiled because you expect (a) people to spill liquids on it and (b) it to he mopped regularly... Those edges soak up gross liquids and the wood expands and rots... In my home I've run a fat bead of silicone caulk around the edges of the kitchen and bathroom floors! Also turns the acute 90° grime trap into two 45°s so easier to clean!

Gawd, the shit I got when I waded into a "discussion" on Instagram about how "men are so helpless and useless and they need to be given a LIST of chores before they will help" and I chimed in: "Actually I have ADHD and if my ex had given me a specific, detailed list instead of just telling me to 'look around and see what needs done' and then getting MAD that I didn't do what HE WANTED DONE maybe I wouldn't have this huge emotional trauma" and it turned into: "YOU'RE JUST ENABLING LAZY MEN AND GIVING THEM EXCUSES, ADHD ISN'T A GOOD EXCUSE, EVERYBODY KNOWS HOW TO CLEAN"… …um, no, not everyone does. And it's really fucking sexist to assume that WOMEN ESPECIALLY are "born with" this knowledge and skill set and little "habit tracker" already programmed in.
@harriehq I think most of us benefit from lists, at least until they figure out the routine. If routines are hard to form, then lists are necessary. The whole stereotypes and roles thing is cultural and true, but it's also not something written in stone that can't be changed. I do not know what I want to say with this. Maybe that if you have learned something at a young age or out of necessity or it's part of your "love-language" it's "easy" even if you don't particulary like or enjoy @afewbugs

Tamper Detection with Time-Domain Reflectometry
For certain high-security devices, such as card readers, ATMs, and hardware security modules, normal physical security isn’t enough – they need to wipe out their sensitive data if someone starts drilling through the case. Such devices, therefore, often integrate circuit meshes into their cases and regularly monitor them for changes that could indicate damage. To improve the sensitivity and accuracy of such countermeasures, [Jan Sebastian Götte] and [Björn Scheuermann] recently designed a time-domain reflectometer to monitor meshes (pre-print paper).
Many meshes are made from flexible circuit boards with winding traces built into the case, so cutting or drilling into the case breaks a trace. The problem is that most common ways to detect broken traces, such as by resistance or capacitance measurements, aren’t easy to implement with both high sensitivity and low error rates. Instead, this system uses time-domain reflectometry: it sends a sharp pulse into the mesh, then times the returning echoes to create a mesh fingerprint. When the circuit is damaged, it creates an additional echo, which is detected by classifier software. If enough subsequent measurements find a significant fingerprint change, it triggers a data wipe.
The most novel aspect of this design is its affordability. An STM32G4-series microcontroller manages the timing, pulse generation, and measurement, thanks to its two fast ADCs and a high-resolution timer with sub-200 picosecond resolution. For a pulse-shaping amplifier, [Jan] and [Björn] used the high-speed amplifiers in an HDMI redriver chip, which would normally compensate for cable and connector losses. Despite its inexpensive design, the circuit was sensitive enough to detect when oscilloscope probes contacted the trace, pick up temperature changes, and even discern the tiny variations between different copies of the same mesh.
It’s not absolutely impossible for an attacker to bypass this system, nor was it intended to be, but overcoming it would take a great deal of skill and some custom equipment, such as a non-conductive drill bit. If you’re interested in seeing such a system in the real world, check out this teardown of a payment terminal. One of the same authors also previously wrote a KiCad plugin to generate anti-tamper meshes.

@evan I agree with @EricLawton -- "expatriate" is an imperial term. I see no confusion of terminology in his comment, quite the opposite.
In the context of the poll, "expatriate" was used about emigrants, not immigrants, but the point stands. The clearest term, if a bit long and pedantic, might have been "citizens who are not residents".
