Oh and before anyone says "Oh but women are good at recurring maintenance tasks because they're naturally good at multitasking": 1) saying this will earn you a block. 2) No, we're not, we had to learn to be. That's why I need a task manager to tell me to keep on top of things like that. If you're willing to put in your share of the work to maintain a healthy, functional environment both at home and at work you can learn too
Gawd, the shit I got when I waded into a "discussion" on Instagram about how "men are so helpless and useless and they need to be given a LIST of chores before they will help" and I chimed in: "Actually I have ADHD and if my ex had given me a specific, detailed list instead of just telling me to 'look around and see what needs done' and then getting MAD that I didn't do what HE WANTED DONE maybe I wouldn't have this huge emotional trauma" and it turned into: "YOU'RE JUST ENABLING LAZY MEN AND GIVING THEM EXCUSES, ADHD ISN'T A GOOD EXCUSE, EVERYBODY KNOWS HOW TO CLEAN"… …um, no, not everyone does. And it's really fucking sexist to assume that WOMEN ESPECIALLY are "born with" this knowledge and skill set and little "habit tracker" already programmed in.

So we've strayed a very long way from Nextcloud's task manager, but the older I get the more I see "Who does the dishes after the revolution?" as one of the first questions that should be asked in any progressive space. I've seen at permaculture camps where the men wander off to form a drumming circle while the women set up the cooking rotas and compost station. I've seen it at the meetings where the men stand up and give inspiring speeches while the women organise drinks and take the minutes

I've seen at permaculture camps where the men wander off to form a drumming circle while the women set up the cooking rotas and compost station. I've seen it at the meetings where the men stand up and give inspiring speeches while the women organise drinks and take the minutes
Hell I even see it in queer spaces where the women, femmes and enbies are the ones organising booking the venue and bringing home made cake after checking everyone's dietary requirements in advance. The first step towards dividing the tasks that bring the glory and the tasks that just have to be done up fairly is just noticing how they're divided now

Quite prosaically, I’m using Reminders in Nextcloud Calendar for recurring tasks. Works very well for me.

@afewbugs I can set recurring tasks on my Nextcloud calendar task list via 3rd party apps like Reminders on iOS or Evolution via CalDAV
I'm not sure if there's a way to do it through the web interface, if that's what you're asking though!
you can't via nextcloud webapp, you have to use a CalDAV client with tasks support like @researchfairy said

If any @nextcloud developers happen to be reading this and want a feminist perspective, actually especially if they're reading and don't want a feminist perspective: there are two types of tasks, one off achievement tasks like build a website, write an article, paint a room where once it's done it's done, and recurring maintenance tasks: do the laundry, change the sheets, water the plants.
@afewbugs @nextcloud I'm not entirely sure what nextcloud is? but I use todoist for my recurring tasks and it works perfectly, also telegram recently added the ability to schedule a recurring message, and as I also use telegram in my household for to do lists that has also been invaluable

closest I can think of is using the Chores nextcloud webapp https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/chores
those can be recurring

If you build a task manager without the facility to do recurring tasks that tells me a) you're not the one doing the recurring maintenance tasks and b) you either don't recognise the importance of maintenance tasks or you haven't even noticed that they're being done around you to allow you to do the big one off production of a European open source task manager, say.

I just checked on the latest NextCloud. Nope, no support for recurring tasks at all.
The Calendar, however, has support for repeating an event daily, weekly, multiple times a week, on a day of the month, or annually. And the notes field is about the equal of the Tasks description field.
It doesn't let you mark it as completed, though, or assign it to someone else.
Next I'll look in whatever they have for project management.

Guess which one usually gets handed to which gender. Men tend to get the one off high profile, highly regarded tasks (build the shed or the kitchen or the database), women tend to get the recurring tasks (clean the house, make sure the invoices are paid on time) that don't get the respect the one off tasks get but without which the big one off projects couldn't happen.
@afewbugs doing open source maintenance has kind of driven that in for me
(i'm quote-unquote lucky, i get to do some high-profile things too. but 95% of it is just sheer persistence at maintaining things nobody else wants to touch.)

@afewbugs There's one thing that I can somewhat, only a bit, accept as an excuse for talking about NextCloud in particular: It operates on CalDAV Standards and the Tasks part of that ... sucks badly. Like, terrible. I've not been happy with any of CalDAV synced Tasks because not only is support shoddy, but for exactly the reason you give.
However, NextCloud could – as any one of the stakeholders – try to push for something different or find ways to enable this use case better.
Case in point: What do people use for such tasks? Alarms are... hard to manage. Calendar entries are overwhelming. I try paper but I forget too often.

I'm actually using Todoist at the moment, but looking into European alternatives wherever possible and as I'm already using NextCloud for file management I thought I'd take a look at their task manager and see if it was a workable alternative. Looks like it isn't though as probably at least half of what I use it for is recurring tasks

@ljrk I use Todoist which works really well, but as I'm looking at European alternatives and already use NextCloud for file storage I thought I'd take a look at their task manager

@afewbugs seeing the other replies here reminds to point out that I’m using the Nextcloud calendar mostly (but not exclusively) through my iPhone and whatever Gnome has for a calendar application. (Galendar??)
I’m rather stunned to learn that the Nextcloud Calendar app doesn’t let you set recurring reminders. This strongly supports your argument.

@jfkimmes this does explain something: it seems to be able to invoke tools when it is planning, but then those tools do not get invoked in the final step.
so it uses tools to read files when planning, then fails to use tools when executing.
what a fascinating conundrum.

@ariadne In any case: as long as the final response is generated by your trained model it will never make a valid tool call since there are probably about zero training examples of the necessary JSON structure required by the tool handling in your furry smut (this is an estimate that could be quite the way off knowing the furry community but still)

@ariadne Oh, is that a OpenClaw specific feature where you can specify that reasoning traces are generated by a separate model than the actual response? I'm not really familiar with OpenClaw's internals.
