@Edent what's so bad about <div> ... or: Why do you want to avoid them?
-
@Edent If you have the time, do visit Waiheke. Island, off Auckland. Lovely place. We spent one night of our honeymoon at the Te Whau lodge, and it was the best experience of the entire trip.

@Edent i just wanted to say i liked your post (the actual post) and agree. And yer I agree people like D_HH have no place in an inclusive web. There are prob many others id say, but thats one who i immediately thought of.
Those hacker news comments are just stupid in my opinion, unable to see any sort of analogy.
Thanks for the post.

@Sandra did you read the blog post?
Not the Toot, the post.
Because it isn't about XHTML.@Edent lol Sandra and Simon look like LLMs
-
@tml I think you've read something into my post that I didn't write.
You can read more about my thoughts on accessibility at https://shkspr.mobi/blog/tag/a11y/

@Edent I saw all of that and even though it brought the haters out it is good to know that people such as yourself are allies. It’s a message they didn’t like but still need to read and hear.
-
@neil yeah, sometimes it is a gem. Other times a cess pit. Oh well!
-
@bluegreenandfree to be clear, I think Calibre adding this as an optional choice, with support for local models, is a good thing.
-
@Edent I think the comparison you make here is so valid.
-
@Edent I'm taking the level of snark as permission to counter with the Troy stories of Cassandra and the wooden horse 😋
-
@silvermoon82 it is very different from what I was expecting. Festival worthy!
-
@Edent oh the waterfront is an exceptional place on a day like today!

@Edent I'm in Wellington aka Te Whanganui A Tara in indigenous language, Te Reo Māori. I enjoy meetups with folk with overlapping interests. When will you be visiting?
FWIW I used to help with hackathons using open data sets and lots of other tech events.
I also met my partner at a science fiction convention years ago and we're both keen readers.
Wellington used to be livelier in tech sector before Covid and subsequently a change of government in 2023. Here's a flavour from @miramarmike

@nwp we were then a few years ago but, alas, not this visit. Lovely part of the world.
-
@Edent I'm not one for needless bureacuracy or introduction of policies… but loved to see the vegan policy you photographed
-
@Edent I don’t really think that’s the issue.
Criticism of AI is not only about asking for the right to opt out of the feature (or for the feature to be opt in); people think these features shouldn’t exist in the first place. There are plenty of problems with AI that don’t go away just because I don’t personally have to use them.
Among other things, for me personally it would make me doubt the developer’s judgment and priorities.
I realise not everybody agrees with me on that point and I don’t expect them to, but I think it’s worth understanding what the actual criticisms are and not simply assuming that people are misunderstanding/assuming the worst/inventing problems.

@Edent @nifta @va2lam @Kay @summerbeth was a pleasure to meet you all. And a great venue. I'll definitely return 🙂

@Edent @nifta @Phil_Tanner @va2lam @summerbeth Lovely to meet with you all and hear about people's travels and interests. 🤗
I mentioned my phone - a Unihertz Titan from a small Shanghai start up and its great accessibility features. 📲
https://www.unihertz.com/collections/titan-seriesI also mentioned UK writer Jen Campbell to Terry and Liz. Here's one of her poems from a short but powerful book "Please Do Not Touch This Exhibit".
The poem Alopecia is probably inspired by Jen's own experiences of medical side effects.
