@swelljoe I live in Minnesota. We are arguably the kindness people in the US. MN is made fun of for this nicest as a national feature. What is happening here, is not funny. What is happening in MN is scary and concerning. Yet like Floyd, MN is the best place to show resistance and help change US culture views. BC if the nicest people in the US are upset. There is a genuine problem.
@surethingwhitey @swelljoe I read in the European press that the Trump administration wants to create chaos so that midterm elections do not have to take place. Is this really an option?

@swelljoe As should we all.

@Sigmundkapje @surethingwhitey it's unlikely without an open civil war. States run elections, not the federal government. So, he could interfere with elections in very red states with complicit legislatures, but it's the swing states and blue states he needs to interfere with, and those seem unlikely to go along quietly. Which is why he's trying to interfere and manipulate in other ways. They're currently trying to extort access to voter data in Minnesota under threat of continued occupation.

@Sigmundkapje @surethingwhitey of course, it'd be foolish to ignore the fact that Trump and Republicans expanded ICE and DHS (the most overtly fascist paramilitary institutions in the US from the beginning) funding to be larger than pretty much every military on earth other than our own. He wanted an army of loyalists to make sure he never has to face consequences for anything he does, and the real military has previously balked at illegal actions like what ICE is currently doing.

@swelljoe This is so heartbreaking.

@Sigmundkapje IANAL, but I don't believe so. Everyone must follow the Constitution, which provides no exceptions to its fixed schedule of elections. The US kept that schedule during both World Wars, and also through our own Civil War. (Though Rebel States did not participate.) So there seems to be no grounds for this.
That said, there's nothing I wouldn't past this lawless regime.

CNN: Trump calls on Republicans to ‘nationalize’ future elections.Does this mean the end of state run elections?

@Sigmundkapje @surethingwhitey that's the plan, yeah. But, it remains true it requires cooperation of states that are unlikely to cooperate with the plan.
Some Republican states (e.g. Texas) have obeyed in advance, by sending voter data to the federal government. Trump was likely to win the very red states, regardless of interventions. Though, I guess Texas Republicans just had a wake-up call with the recent state Senate district that swung 31 points from +17 for Trump to +14 for the Democrat.
