Just now returned from a fantastic winter adventure in the White Mountains, NH. Perfect weather and trail conditions allowed me to hike a substantial loop up high -- first ascending to a summit, then hiking a section of the ridge (hiking up and over other peaks), and ending by descending from the last peak. A great day of hiking with amazing views! #FootpathFriday #snowshoeing #mountains

Yes, so amazing and thoroughly enjoyable, Richard. This was an unusual one-day weather window with a large high pressure system over the area with no wind, clear skies, and mild temps (but below freezing). Since this coincided with a holiday week, I had to âshareââ the mountain with others. But we were all stretched out over the 8.5 mile route (13.5km). Had a brief encounter with someone about once an hour, but otherwise was completely alone. đ âïž â°ïž@TimKStanton very nice.

Yeah, crazy how windy it gets up there. It was 30 mph (50 km/h) the last time I was up on the ridge. Couldnât see to the other side of the summit. -

Thank you! It was an amazing day up on the ridge. Beautiful views not only of distant mountains, but also of nearby features such as the cairns. I took pics of a number of these cairnsâ all with unique patterns of rime ice. -

I vaguely knew of 'rime frost', but not how it comes about. It was interesting to see and learn.

@jerzone we have had rain and melting temps for a week now. Trails are gone, just slush. Waiting for freezing temps so I can go and ride anywhere and everywhere.

@lesley yes, but in the case of @riley that's not the same issue: if foo has-a bar, there's no way to do the casting _implicitly_, as far as a I know. It would be possible with references by defining an implicit constructor of bar from foo, but this won't be applied to pointers.
The only work around I can think of is to define an overloaded function
bar * get_bar(bar * o) { return o; }
bar * get_bar(foo * o) { return &o->bar_element; }and wrap pointer arguments with that function.
