  • @_elena still no simple FTP server that doesn't require 287302723 different config files with 0xDEADBEEF command line options.

Honestly if a ftp server is more complicated than `ftpserver $HOME --write --read` then it is a failed one.

  • Plug Into USB, Read Hostname and IP Address

Ever wanted to just plug something in and conveniently read the hostname and IP addresses of a headless board like a Raspberry Pi? Chances are, a free USB port is more accessible than digging up a monitor and keyboard, and that’s where [C4KEW4LK]’s rpi_usb_ip_display comes in. Plug it into a free USB port, and a few moments later, read the built-in display. Handy!

The device is an RP2350 board and a 1.47″ Waveshare LCD, with a simple 3D-printed enclosure. It displays hostname, WiFi interface, Ethernet interface, and whatever others it can identify. There isn’t even a button to push; just plug it in and let it run.

Here’s how it works: once plugged in, the board identifies itself as a USB keyboard and a USB serial port. Then it launches a terminal with Ctrl-Alt-T, and from there it types and runs commands to do the following:

Find the serial port that the RP2350 board just created.Get the parsed outputs of hostname, ip -o -4 addr show dev wlan0, ip -o -4 addr show dev eth0, and ip -o -4 addr show to gather up data on active interfaces.Send that information out the serial port to the RP2350 board.Display the information on the LCD.Update periodically.

The only catch is that the host system must be able to respond to launching a new terminal with Ctrl-Alt-T, which typically means the host must have someone logged in.

It’s a pretty nifty little tool, and its operation might remind you, in concept, of how BadUSB attacks happen: a piece of hardware, once plugged into a host, identifies itself to the host as something other than what it appears to be. Then it proceeds to input and execute actions. But in this case, it’s not at all malicious, just convenient and awfully cute.

Report: "Israel should pay for Gaza reconstruction together with key supporters" ~Francesca Albanese"Two years of genocide in Gaza is the combination of 60 years of impunity,” which is not going to stop “unless things change in London or in Rome, or in Berlin, or in Paris.”Also, the UK’s complicity through services provided from Cyprus should be investigated, she said.https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20251212-un-special-rapporteur-says-israel-should-pay-for-gaza-reconstruction-together-with-key-supporters/ #USPol #Europol #GazaReconstruction #FrancescaAlbanese #press #palestine @palestine .

I ended up going to two protests today. The first one was the very first No Kings protest ever organized in that particular city (by a 15 yr. old, no less!) and attracted actual local media and their photographers for a crowd of about 200 people, including two wonderful inflatable costumed participants (Unicorn and Capybara). There were two trump flag trucks briefly harassing us, with cardboard covering the name of the businesses. The police walked back and forth slowly in front of the protest line, while they whispered to us that they didn't trust those guys, and this scared those guys away. The police then stayed at a respectful distance and were very professional. It was a lively crowd. We treated any chants against us as impromptu dance music and immediately made enough noise to drown them out. Most drivers did not react at all, so the positive responses were very scattered. But, shockingly, THREE fire trucks honked in support. I didn't think government vehicles were allowed to do that. 😃I had to hurry to the second protest. There were so many events organized in so many cities, that the times were really overlapping. I'm so glad I went, though, as it was a much bigger crowd there, covering all four corners and down the streets of a large major intersection with a very long stoplight. There was nowhere for drivers to look without seeing us, so a few distressed folks covered their eyes, because seeing people holding signs was too traumatic for them, I guess. The vast majority of drivers were incredibly enthusiastic in their approval and the constant honking was a beautiful cacophony. I am dying to know how many people were there, because it was the biggest crowd I'd ever seen at that location, by far. Also looking forward to hearing numbers from up in Atlanta. I would also love to hear about your experiences, if you were able to participate today, and I hope you got to see some cool inflatables. Apparently frog costumes are sold out all over the country. I did see Snoopy and a Flying Squirrel at the second protest. But, it was too hot down here for most of us to handle a full-body costume. So proud of everyone.#NoKings #Protest

These programs are always about giving a contract to someone's buddy to run the software that keeps track of how many hours disabled people are working or aren't working. And, to perpetuate the feeling that people's lives aren't worth anything if they aren't maximizing shareholder profit every quarter.https://www.propublica.org/article/georgia-pathways-medicaid-work-requirement-gao-report#uspol #news
