I'm so torn.
The Fediverse has been a wonderful online home for me since I first joined 8 years ago. I made my own instance 7 years ago specifically so I could provide a similar home for other creative folks as well.
The Fediverse has a long and complicated history, and has very real issues when it comes to how it treats Black folks and other POC, as well as marginalized folks. On a large scale, the Fediverse is a complicated, often hostile place, especially to newcomers.
I love it here. But I'm privileged. The colour of my skin and my economic status has a lot to do with that, as well as being an admin that can shape my immediate surroundings to suit myself. There's nothing I want more than to be able to invite more of my friends here, but I can't really do that with confidence, despite my good intentions, when the wider network has so many cultural issues.
I do think that an ecosystem made out of thousands of intersecting communities all trying (within their means) to do their best (hopefully) to make this place good and welcoming is more encouraging than one or two large "cities" run by corporations at the whim of their CEO's eccentricities and bigotry. But I honestly can't blame people if the cost of entry is way too high when it comes to understanding this place and its history and acknowledging its flaws in addition to the good.
Anyway. Wish I had an answer.

@Rheall I'm sort of in a similar boat. At this point it's not so much like I feel the fediverse is the best social media, I just feel like it's the least bad right now, but that isn't exactly super inspiring. I think the foundation for the future is right here, but it feels like there's still so much work that needs to be done, and it's taken a lot longer than I hoped.

@TapiocaPearl You've absolutely got it.
The Fediverse has had so many opportunities to prove to the outside world that it's the better, more humane option, but every time it's fallen down on a massive scale to convince others of its worth or utility, which really sucks.

@Rheall I could be biased because for most of my time on this network I've been interacting with it as a moderator, but I feel like the moderator tools are such a massive limitation that ultimately causes as many problems as they solve. Often it feels like our only options to deal with spam or problematic accounts are too extreme, but the only alternative is to do nothing. I'd rather have an antibiotic to treat an infection than need to amputate a limb.

Caso di studio sulla comunicazione politica. Ci sono video in cui il non detto fino a ieri pesa più di quanto detto oggi, poi ci sono video che all'apparenza sembrano chiacchiere inutili ma in sostanza ti fanno prendere pernacchie da destra e da sinistra, e infine ci sono video che gettano il marchio dell'ipocrisia sula persona che li mette in circolazione, sul partito in cui milita e le istituzioni che serve. E poi c''è Pina, che li riunisce tutti in un solo messaggio.

@mora @quinta sarò ingenuo, ma io non credo che sia così. L'Europa è stata voluta altrimenti non si sarebbe fatta. Finora è convenuto più o meno a tutti, anche a chi fa guerra ibrida all'Europa (per poi in realtà mandare oligarchi a investirci dentro). Mettendo da parte l'Italia e le dovute fluttuazioni nel corso dei decenni, il tenore di vita medio in Europa è migliorato.
Nell'ipotesi peggiore, ovvero che l'Europa è solo un bancomat, beh, pur sempre meglio di niente. Chissa dove saremmo senza.
