Which of these word processors have you used this month (December 2025)?
-
@evan bbedit.
-
@mpjgregoire did you use word this month?
@evan I used Word most recently on Friday, working on a proposal.
But on the other hand I used Jupyter -> LaTeX -> Emacs -> pdf on Tuesday, a publishing system that gave me much more pleasure. Not something that my colleagues will realistically repeat though.

Apache OpenOffice lists download information here, for everyone who is interested:
https://www.openoffice.org/stats/downloads.html
They say there have been about 390M downloads total. From the stats, I'm estimating somewhere in the low tens of thousands of downloads per day.

@evan bbedit.
@quinn you do your professional writing on bbedit?
-
@evan LaTeX/Emacs?
-
@evan I did not use Google Docs by choice. Some of my partners use it and I haven't convinced them to move off of it.

@netmackan that's great. There were a few replies along the line of, "Nobody uses Apache OpenOffice, why did you list it." The main reason I listed it was so I didn't have to have these conversations, which apparently didn't work. But it does have users, so I don't regret it.

@tragivictoria the question isn't what you use most often.

@starluna the question isn't about choice.
-
@evan LaTeX/Emacs?
@monnier What about them?
-
@evan Proton Docs more than any of the above.
@dennyhenke the question wasn't what you use most.
-
@evan You left out "none of the above" as a choice.

@ity I didn't want to waste one of my four available slots on nota, and ActivityPub doesn't have a native way to respond nota to a multi-option poll. The best you can do is a reply, which you did!

@evan nota?

@ndw I did indeed!

@evan I retired in September. One of the biggest benefits was I no longer have to use Word, Excel or PowerPoint . I still write documents and spreadsheets but exclusively in LibreOffice.
