When people point out that drunk driving leads to loss of life, there's two ways to respond:
«true, and that's bad, mayb we should do something to minimize drunk driving and its negative effect» is one
«that's life, there's nothing you can do to eliminate drunk driving so better live with it» is the other
You chose one, we chose the other. That tells more about us than it does about drunk driving indeed.

I'm not advocating for an old but functional protocol. that was a fscking example of a jerk anti-competitive anti-interop move from a time when the protocol was still in very active use.
removing it didn't bring any better features, and claiming that it did makes you sound clueless

I got an account to my university datacenter, all what I had was a green VT100 connected to some UNIX machine.
I got that account to study C language, UNIX and its tools (awk, sed...).
Then I discovered IRC and my life changed 😁
Then Internet arrived at home too a year or two later, with my IBM compatible 386 and my 14400 modem. A couple of evenings a week I connected the modem to the home phone line and I downloaded/uploaded mail messages.
Browsing the web happened a bit later 😁

@peterkotrcka for some generations (like mine), it has been. Now things are different. Young people rely much less on motorcycles and cars. Which is somehow (probably) good.

What was your first rig? I remember my first 'portable' setup, it weighed about as much as a boat anchor and had less processing power than a modern toaster, but it felt like magic when that first connection clicked into place.
