The irony 🫣 : #Firefox of all projects in the world should absolutely know better when it comes to browsers NOT adding bloat and becoming "a broader ecosystem of trusted software".

@jbz Combined with his background (no open source/privacy advocacy experience) and his extremely rapid rise to CEO, this looks like Mozilla’s board brought in someone to “fix the business” who sees users’ expectations as obstacles to revenue rather than as the foundation of Mozilla’s value proposition.I’d be looking for a Firefox alternative too.

@yoasif E2EE, until your password for Firefox Accounts gets compromised (anyone with the FxA password can decrypt your sync key stored in Mozilla's servers. Even if their device is not synced and the account has no synced devices). And knowing that many people will still reuse their passwords across different services, this is not a remote possibility. Mozilla can still be forced by authorities to hand over a user's sync key, and if said authorities know that their target has likely reused their password for Firefox Sync with another website that got a breach, well that user can just hope that there's nothing incriminating in the synced data...They shouldn't have replaced Sync 1.1 (aka Weave) with its J-PAKE where the sync key never leaves the synced device (the only thing the server will have is encrypted data it can't read, even if the sync password gets compromised).@fizzo @jbz

Mozilla: New #Firefox #Extensions must disclose #Data #Collection #Practices. The devs will be required to disclose any new extension's data practices in the manifest.json file using a dedicated browser_specific_settings.gecko.data_collection_permissions key beginning today. Mozilla will also require all extension developers to adopt this framework in 2026.https://extensionworkshop.com/documentation/develop/firefox-builtin-data-consent/#taxonomy#it #developer #tech #media #engineering #news
