@evan I missed the poll, but very much for the love of it. My FediCon talk referenced the undergrad Technology and Society course that set me on a path - the "Society" is the vital part of that.
It was the engagement with other interesting humans that drew me in.
Ironic looking at "social media" now. That time in my life was when commercial capture and manipulation of human social connection happened in meatspace - couldn't meet people without buying alcohol or paying cover charges, etc.
